Judges 2:11-19
Psalm 106:34-37,39-40,43-44
Matthew 19:16-22

The young man in the gospel is clearly a very well-intentioned person who is leading a good life (Matthew 19:16-22). He has been faithful to all the commandments that Jesus mentions:
‘You must not kill. You must not commit adultery. You must not bring false witness. Honour your father and mother, and you must love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Matthew 19:18,19). Yet, something is bothering him. He senses that he is being called to something more. He asks ‘What more do I need to do?’ The rich young man’s call required him to let go of his great wealth. That is what Jesus asked him to do. There and then, he could not answer Jesus’ call. Although he clearly heard the voice of Jesus, he could not bring himself to part with his riches and follow Christ. So, he went away sad. You do not have to be unhappy. If you hunger for more of God, it is because He has put this hunger in you. And he wants to satisfy your desire for Him. He wants you to rise above the bare minimum to attain a deeper and more enriching experience of Him.
This experience comes from:
Becoming increasingly aware of God's presence in and around you.
Making every moment a time of prayer.
Praying for a fresh indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Reading and meditating on Scriptures daily.
Serving God through a ministry or pious society in the Church.
Using your resources to support the Church and her mission.
Mentoring someone or seeking mentorship yourself.
Frequenting the sacraments of the Eucharist and Confession.
Give your best to your work.
Obsessing less and less about your welfare and trusting more in divine providence.
Perfection is not a distant dream. It is an achievable goal. Jesus is calling you to follow Him on the path of perfection. If you trust Him, you shall be delivered from all manner of worries and misfortune. But if you depend on your own understanding and strength, you will have to deal with the many troubles of life on your own. What will you do?
JUDE-MARY OWOH
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayfully seek a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor, or priest.
Prayer:
Eternal Father, I place my trust in You. I desire to be perfect and to abide in Your love.
Teach me to follow Jesus, Your Son, with total surrender and daily devotion.
I surrender my will, my intellect and my heart. I place my whole being at Your service. Lead me, move me and have Your way with me. Amen.
May God grant you a hunger for Him and satisfy your heart's desire.
May God's grace and favour be upon you always through Christ our Lord. Amen. Have a blessed and grace-filled week.
