There is a song by French composer Lucien Deiss which goes, "All you nations, sing out your joy to the Lord: Alleluia, Alleluia!" Do you know it? I particularly love the second verse that says: "Lift your hearts, sing to your God: tremendous your deeds on the earth! Vanquished your foes, struck down by power and might: Alleluia!" The “vanquish your foes” part gives me a certain confidence that God is more powerful than anything that I shall encounter in the course of my life, and yes, He is. We celebrate our confidence in divine majesty in a special way in the feast of Christ’s Transfiguration.

In Luke’s gospel, we learn that his closest disciples (Peter, James and John) witnessed the transformation of his outward appearance as He prayed and were even more afraid when Moses and Elijah appeared in glory (Luke 9:28,29).

  • By his transfiguration, Jesus prepared his disciples for the scandal of his passion and crucifixion.

  • Similarly, our ugly experiences do not diminish the glory which has been pledged to us in baptism and which shall attain full realisation in heaven.

  • You are not defined by how many mistakes you make. It is your resolution never to stay in defeat, which shall receive a befitting crown of glory.

  • Remain in prayer. It is the most powerful thing on earth. Every moment spent in the presence of God recharges you for the journey yet ahead.

  • Live for God and for His glory. There is no higher aspiration than this.

  • Jesus is always interceding for us before the Eternal Father. This way, we rest assured of divine mercy and providence.

  • The transfiguration foreshadowed Jesus’ resurrection and ascension to glory. Because Jesus is alive, we can look forward to eternal life in heavenly glory.

  • Because He lives, we are assured of divine protection and inspiration for all our daily tasks and challenges.

  • When we read Scriptures (the Law, the Prophets and the New Testament), we can hear His voice and receive guidance in moments of confusion.

  • The essential ingredients for access to God’s favour through Christ are faith in God’s unfailing goodness, unconditional love and hope in the fulfilment of all His promises. There is no room for fear, doubt or despair in our relationship with God.

  • Jesus is not just your mediator with the Father. He is also co-heir with you to God’s kingdom. What the Father says of Him is also true for you; you are God’s beloved child, with whom he is pleased.

  • You please God when you imitate the life of Jesus; His joys, daily walk, sorrows, and you live for God’s glory. Is God pleased with how you are living?

  • Christ wants to speak to our world today, and He wants to do so through you; through your speech, your work and talent, your relationships, your spirituality and your life of witness. The world awaits your voice.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully seek out a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor, or priest.

Prayer:

  1. transfigured Christ, cleanse me of every stain of sin and help me to radiate the glory of God today. Amen.

  2. May the glory of God won at the price of Christ's blood radiate from your heart, enlighten your mind and protect you everywhere you go today. Amen.

  3. May your day be richly blessed.
