Today’s Readings:

Acts 11:1-18

Psalm 42:2-3,42:3-4

John 10:1-10

The biggest blessing you will ever receive is to know who you are, understand God’s love for you and discover your purpose. So, who are you? You are a creature, God’s creature. There was a time you were not. God created you, and now you can live forever with Christ. This is such a big deal because there is another creature who is not happy with this plan. In the Scriptures, Jesus calls him a thief. He lures God’s creatures away from the right path - to steal, to kill and to destroy them forever in hell (John 10:10). He is the devil or Satan. He is not your friend. Far from it. He is the enemy of your soul and salvation. Knowing this truth prepares you for the second part of the blessing.

The second blessing is God’s love. We sometimes wonder why God made us. God is love, and love is creative (1 John 4:8). Love brings good things into being. We are creatures of God’s goodness, made in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26,27). By the very fact of our existence, we glorify God and He takes pleasure in our lives (Psalm 35:27). It is in Him that we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). No one is an outcast in God’s eyes. This is the reason God revealed to Saint Peter that he should call nothing that He has created unclean (Acts 10:15). Every one of us is created good. Yes, admittedly, we sometimes do bad stuff. But they do not define us. We are not the sum of our mistakes; we are the product of God’s love. Never normalise the idea of doing wrong. Never allow the devil to lie to you that you are an evil person, and you cannot help it. Anyone who tries to steal your self-confidence is the enemy. The final part of the blessing is the most important.

You are highly blessed when you discover your purpose. The template of your purpose is the same as that of the next person; God made you to know, love and serve Him. You live for God’s glory (1 Corinthians 10:31). The purpose of flowers is in being flowers. The purpose of the sun is to be the sun. These things do not think of doing anything else than just being themselves. We, as humans, fulfil God’s purpose in our lives by being ourselves. Let everything you do flow from your humanity and personhood. The problem begins when we start trying to do things to make ourselves be more than ourselves. When you struggle to acquire fame, friends and favour, you are trying to be more than yourself. God gives His gifts to us not because there is something lacking. We are gifted because they are responsibilities to be managed and administered.

Your biggest blessing is that you are a child of God, you are loved by God, and you are made for God’s glory. Everything else is only a footnote. Knowing who you are should draw you closer to a relationship with God. His unconditional love should teach you to treat people, not as they treat you, but as they ought to be treated—with love and respect. Discovering what you are good at is indicative of the mission which God has assigned to you, which must be fulfilled without fail; and never lead anyone whom God has placed in your path astray (John 6:39, 18:9). Renew your commitment to use your blessings to bless others.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully seek out a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor, or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Eternal Father, thank you for considering me worthy of Your love. Thank you for the gift of my life. Thank you for sending your Son to die for my sins. Thank you for the gifts which you have given me to share with the world. Bless me, Father and bless the world through me. Amen.

  2. I am blessed because God is my Father. I shall be a blessing because God has poured His gifts into me. Lord Jesus, give me the strength to fulfil this mandate this week. Amen.
