Isaiah 2:1-5
Psalm 121:1-2,4-5,6-9
Matthew 8:5-11
Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word, and my servant will be cured. For I am under authority myself, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man: Go, and he goes; to another: Come here, and he comes; to my servant: Do this, and he does it. (Matthew 8:8)

It is the second day of our preparation for Christ’s coming in the season of Advent. And I want you to pay attention to the words of the centurion. These are words that you must say when you come to the sacrifice of the Holy Mass. Just about the time the priest invites us to come forward for the Eucharist. He says, “Behold, the Lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are you (you are blessed, filled with God’s blessings, you are in line for God’s favour, you are here to be granted your heart’s desires) who are invited to the supper of the Lamb”. To which you must say, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof. But only say the word and my soul shall be healed”.
In doing this, you are placing yourself in front of Jesus and asking Him to do with you as He wills. You are asking Him to apply to you the same blessing that He granted to the centurion who came to ask for the healing of his servant. What happened? We are told that at that very moment, his servant was made well.
Let us be intentional when we pray. If you can attend Mass, be intentional when you respond to the words of the priest. Look up at the Eucharist, hear the words of Jesus telling you, “Behold the Lamb of God…” And respond with firm faith in your heart, “Lord, I am not worthy…”
If you cannot make it to Mass, to the service, make a spiritual act of communion.
Ask God to put in you a hunger for His word, for the Eucharist and a hunger for spiritual things. We are hungry for companionship, for money, for status and fame, but we are indifferent to God. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but God’s word shall remain (Matthew 24:35).
Stay close to the Church and stay away from deceptive words which lead you astray (For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths, 2 Timothy 4:3,4).
Find joy in serving God and His people with your gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Invite God into your heart, into your life by feeding on His word and Eucharist and desiring His presence in you always, and it shall be well with you.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully seek out a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor, or priest.
Prayer:
On this second day of preparation for Christmas, may Christ make His home in your heart.
May His healing descend upon your spiritual and physical illness.
May His blessings fill up your wants and needs and grant you reasons to be thankful each day. Amen.
