HAPPY SUNDAY

I have good news and I have better news. The good news is that you are a child of God, yes, you. And the better news is that there are benefits to your relationship with God. The opening prayer of today’s liturgy states clearly: “Almighty ever-living God, whom, taught by the Holy Spirit, we dare to call our Father, bring, we pray, to perfection in our hearts the spirit of adoption as your sons and daughters, that we may merit to enter into the inheritance which you have promised…”. This is great news because, while we are excited about the promises of a good life here on earth, we are certain that our eternal reward is secure, and God will never put us to shame.

So, why is it good news that I am a child of God?

  • I have a loving Father who has never forsaken me despite my flaws and imperfections.

  • I have a Friend in Jesus who died for me while I was still in sin (Romans 5:8).

  • I have a Teacher in the Holy Spirit who helps me to understand that there is more to me than meets the eye—I am extraordinary and I am going to exceed all expectations as I cooperate with God’s grace.

  • I have been reconciled to God from my sinful ways and made an heir to God’s kingdom.

  • My good works have a tremendous impact, not just on me, but also on the destiny of the world, which should be won over to God by the merits of my sacrifices.

  • God’s favour is upon me because I desire to do right by Him. He blesses and provides for me because I look to Him in hope and total surrender.

It gets better. If you have ever worried that God does not care about you, I want to remind you that:

  • God journeys every step of your life with you, just as He did with Abraham and his descendants.

  • God will keep His promises to you as He made Sarah fruitful when everyone else thought it was impossible.

  • Live your life in God, with God, through God and for God, and you will be unstoppable.

  • Do not dilute the flavour of your faith with the poison of secular moral opinions. Let the love of Christ guide your thoughts and choices.

  • God wants to renew your faith and turn it from sight to insight, so that you are focused not just on what is in front of you but on the assurance of things you hope for.

  • There is a special reward for those who are always ready for God’s visitation. When we treat everyone as God’s presence to us, God’s blessings shall never elude us.

  • Be prepared for the blessings you are waiting for. Do not just dress like what you want to be. Take steps to become that which you desire. If you want to be an expert, don’t stop practising. If you want to be successful, don’t stop improving. To be a winner, never give up.

  • Heaven is present here on earth through our good works, in all seasons and at all times, when we choose to live to the best of our abilities and cooperate with God’s grace daily.

JUDE-MARY OWOH

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. May God’s special grace be upon you on this Day of the Lord.

  2. May the favour of the Lord accompany you all week long.

  3. And may your cooperation with the graces you receive yield blessings a thousand-fold through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  4. May goodness and divine mercy follow you, all the days of your life, and may you dwell in the house of the Lord, and abound in faith, hope and love forevermore. Amen.
