Today’s reading:

Hebrews 2:1-9

“You have crowned him with glory and honour, and set him over the works of Your hands”. (v7)

Some of the most heart-warming verses in the scripture are those which state that man has been created in the image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:26-27). This means that man is made to resemble God! It means man is great like God! The greatest of the works of the hands of God is Man. The other works are listed in Gen. 1, in the order of their creation, starting from the light. The last of the created works of God was Man (v 27), and was the only one blessed of them all. God said to him to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the earth and subdue it, and to have dominion over everything that had been created (v 28). God created man last so he could take charge of all other things created.

It is interesting to read the account of creation by the Psalmist in Ps. 148 vs1-12. He started from the heavens, itemising, in order from the heights to the angels; to the host; the sun and moon; the stars of light; the heavens of heavens, waters above the heavens. He said God commanded and they were created, and that He also established them forever and ever. The Psalmist then recorded from v7 the creations on the earth – the great sea creatures and all the depths; fire and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind; mountains and all hills; fruitful trees and all cedars; beasts and all cattle; creeping things and flying fowl; kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and all judges of the earth; both young men and maidens; old men and children. In God’s own eternal wisdom, right from the time of creation, He gave man dominion over everything He had created (v28). This is further confirmed in Ps. 8 vs 5-6, where David wrote about the excellency of God who has crowned man with glory and honour, and has made him to have dominion over the works of his hands; and has put all things in subjection under his feet. In our Today’s reading in vs 7-8, the same statement is quoted, in support of the writer of the book of Hebrews in 2 v 5 that God has not put even the world to come in subjection to angels, but rather to man!

Furthermore, in v8 we read that God put all in subjection under him, that He left nothing that is not put under him. In v9, we read that we see Jesus, who is also crowned with glory and honour like a man, but who suffered death for everyone. He did this to bring men as sons to glory, having become the captain of our salvation perfected through suffering(v v10). Subsequently, Christ is not ashamed to call us his brethren. You can only become a brother of our Lord and Saviour Christ and claim that God has rightly set you over his works when you accept this sacrifice He made for the sins of the world. It is the same Christ who won back what man lost in Eden, when Adam and Eve sinned the sin of disobedience, at which point man lost all to the devil who tempted him, and he fell into his hands. But on the cross of Calvary, Christ fulfilled God’s promise in Gen. 3:15, as the “seed” of the woman, He bruised the head of the devil, Satan. Also, everything lost to him, including the dominion man had over all the works of the hands of God, has been taken back and given to the believers in Christ.

Truly, God has set you over the works of his hands, and you can enjoy your dominion, crown of glory and honour given to you by becoming a true believer in Jesus Christ. Accept the complete work of salvation and reconciliation with God.

CHRISTIE KUPOLUYI

To surrender your life to Jesus, say this prayer out: “Father, I acknowledge my sin against you. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord,”.

Congratulations!!! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Our eternal God, who is perfect in all things, we appreciate you for creating us in your image and likeness.

  2. Father, we thank you for the great gift of your Son our Saviour.

  3. Precious Saviour, we appreciate you for your complete work of salvation given to us freely.

  4. Lord, may we never lose the salvation, dominion, glory and honour you have won back for us.

  5. Father, open the eyes of the leaders of the church to the need to prioritise soul winning, so that mankind will recover all lost to the devil.

  6. Father, deliver our nation from the hand of the devil and his agents, and start a great revival in the land.
