Today’s Readings:

Acts 4:23-31

Psalm 2:1-9

John 3:1-8

No matter the plans of the evil one, good will always prevail. I say this because there is a way in which we allow the noise, plots and scheming of worldly power brokers to scare us. We fear that somehow, they are going to prevail on us or even stop God’s plan for our lives. This is not true. In the Acts of the Apostles, Peter and John survive the plots of the Jews, the same people who plotted Jesus’ death along with Herod and Pilate. Unknown to the Jewish leaders, Jesus’ death was part of a bigger plan which included His resurrection and the sending of the Holy Spirit. Through His death and resurrection, Christ has placed within our reach the power and authority that He wields. This power enables us to trample down the works of darkness, to silence tongues that arise to condemn us, to succeed in all our endeavours against all odds. We have the power to do this because God always prevail, and you certainly will, if you trust in Him.

What can we learn from Jesus and his disciples today that can set us up for resounding success?

  • The power of fellowship and community, where we draw strength and encouragement from our fellow brethren in the faith.

  • The power of prayer (especially community prayer, such as the family and in Church) where we present our collective challenges before God and are strengthened further by the prayers of others.

  • The presence of the Holy Spirit, given to us at Baptism, nourished by the Word of God and the Sacraments. You are a new creation, elusive like the wind, but your presence and influence should always be felt (John 3:7,8).

These will embolden you and reassure you of divine strength against every onslaught of evil. When anyone claims that they have power over you, they are only joking because God has power over everyone, and He will always protect you and prevail over everyone. Walk in boldness by submitting everything to God in prayer. Never submit to fear or the works of iniquity, which aligns you with the godless.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Eternal Father, I submit to the power and influence of the Holy Spirit. Give me a deep hunger for the spiritual food of Your Word and the Eucharist. Nourish me and enlighten my mind. Help me to walk in the strength of that same Word and do exploits wherever I find myself, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  2. Eternal Father. I submit all my plans, preparations and choices before you. Let your will prevail in my life, over and beyond my fears and anxieties and the works of the enemy, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
