Today’s Readings:

Acts 5:27-32,40-41

Psalm 30:2,4-6,11-13;

Apocalypse 5:11-14

John 14:6-14

Christ’s Resurrection is an invitation to look forward. The fact that the disciples returned to fishing after the Resurrection reveals much about their state of mind. Though called away from their nets years before, in the confusion and uncertainty following Christ’s death, they instinctively reverted to what was familiar: the life they had left behind. They were looking backwards, retreating into the comfort of the past. But Jesus, in today’s Gospel, gently calls them to do the opposite: to lift their eyes from the old ways and look forward, to embrace the new future shaped by His Resurrection.

The Lord does not rebuke them; instead, He redirects them with love and simplicity. How does the Risen Christ guide them forward? Not with grand speeches or commands, but with a humble invitation: “Come and have breakfast” (John 21:12). He meets them in the ordinary, sharing a meal—an intimate act of communion and reassurance. In these days after Easter, we too are invited to listen for Christ’s gentle call, to cast our nets in new directions, and to look ahead with hope. The Resurrection is not a return to what was, but a call to embrace the mission that lies before us.

Here is how to keep looking forward this month:

  • Jesus knows you have problems, weaknesses and limitations just like Peter, yet he has chosen you.

  • He is a God of second chances. Even if you have failed, this is your invitation to rise again.

  • Jesus calls us anew every day. Take up your daily tasks/interactions knowing that God wants to use them to bless others and be blessed by Him.

  • The disciples listened to Jesus’ voice and were led to a huge catch of fish. Follow His voice as He speaks in the Scriptures to discover surprising, great and wonderful things.

  • Jesus wants to fill you with the virtue of courage so that you can face a world which forces us to be suspicious, distrusting and afraid.

  • Love is God’s language. We learn this language by looking at how much He loves us. We spread this language by feeding and taking care of His sheep, our brothers and sisters, through acts of service.

  • You cannot love others by your strength alone (even where feelings are involved). Pray for the strength to keep loving even when there are no apparent benefits. True love is sacrificial.

  • Do not succumb to withdrawal syndrome—do not return to past sins.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Lord, your love for me is boundless. You have called me to serve You by caring for your sheep. Let my words inspire courage, my life inspire holiness and all my days be spent witnessing to Your glory. Amen.

  2. Eternal Father, help me let go of the past with all its flaws and mistakes, fix my eyes on Your beloved Son as He calls me to walk in love, and lead me on the path of holiness unto peace and everlasting joy. Amen.
