Your success or failure is dependent on those in your circle of interest. Who are the people in your circle? Abram received a call from God (Genesis 12). He entered into a covenant with God, and today temptation comes in the form of his wife (Genesis 16). Sarai advises him to sleep with his slave girl as a way of “helping God” fulfil his promise. The plan seemingly works. The slave girl Hagar conceives, proving Abram’s fertility. Does this make Sarai happy? No o! It further deepens the wound of her childlessness. What looked like a good plan in the beginning becomes a bigger disaster for Abram. What can we learn from this?

  • When God gives you a vision, it is your duty to protect it. So, stay the course and remain focused.

  • The devil will try to tempt you through familiar voices, not through the voices of strangers.

  • Remove your hand from any plan which involves sin; it never ends well.

  • Be careful with the kind of people you surround yourself with. If they are not encouraging you to do right by God, they are plotting your downfall, and you will fall.

  • Foolishness is not just bad choices. It is a way of thinking. To think foolishly is to turn a blind eye to the long-term consequences of an action. Just so we are clear, smart and intelligent people can be foolish.

  • Wisdom is choosing to do the will of God (“Does this glorify God?”). If it does not please God, you should have no business with it.

  • Spiritually-minded people are not immune to temptation. Your biggest temptation is believing that you are spiritual by your own strength.

  • You can come to church daily and still be God’s enemy. What matters is that you do the will of God. What does God expect of you?  To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8).

  • Surround yourself with people who tell you when you are failing and hold you up when you are falling.

  • Flee from worldly-minded people, who are more set on acquiring this world and forgetful of their souls.

  • Credit your success to God when you receive His favour.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Eternal Father, You have the blueprint of my life. Help me to do Your will in every situation. Make me wise in my choices and plant in you the sure foundation of my faith, success and salvation. Amen.

  2. Eternal Father, my success depends on You. Deliver me from thoughts of foolishness and set my feet on the rock of wisdom and discernment. Amen.
