CAN GOD SEND YOU?

Today’s reading:
Isaiah 6:18
“Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: 'Who shall I send, and who will go for us?”. (v8)

God has many wonderful ways of giving men assignments or using them to fulfil his purposes. These could include: sending on errands to people in or outside one’s nation, like the case of prophet Jeremiah (Jer.1v5). This is not peculiar, if we consider that the Great Commission recorded in Mk 16 vs 16 – 20 is to the whole world. Gladly, v 20 confirms that they went out and preached everywhere!
Aside from this, the nature of God’s assignment is only determined by him and also the duration. Have you ever desired to be sent by God on an assignment? It is common knowledge and also backed up by scripture that God looks at the desires of our hearts and tries to meet them, especially when they are according to his will (Ps. 37:4). He respects man’s will and desires and never forces his will on anyone. If one desires to please him in a particular way or thing or to work for him, He responds accordingly. Examples abound of people who desire to be missionaries or field workers in and outside their nations. God grants their wishes/desires and divinely supports them to fulfil their missions.
One of the striking facts is that God, who sees the end from the beginning, and owns everything in heaven and on the earth, goes ahead to prepare and adequately support whoever He sends or desires to be sent to fulfil his assignment or purpose. He backs up whosoever, after He has adequately prepared the person. In Today’s reading which Isaiah saw a vision of God sitting on a throne in the temple, and while watching the worship going on there, God decided to give Isaiah an invitation. In v8, he heard God saying whom should He send, and who will go for them (God and the host of heaven)? It is important to note that before God made the invitation to Isaiah, He prepared him by sanctifying him. First, God saw his regret of unholiness, uncleanliness and his subsequent brokenness (v5). Seeing these, God went on to have him cleansed from his iniquity, and purged of his sin through an angel who flew to him and touched his mouth with a live coal from the altar in the temple. Having been sanctified, God went ahead to give Isaiah an invitation (v8). Gladly, he responded by saying “here am I! send me” – a positive response to God.
Aside from Isaiah, other prophets and men in the New Testament days, like the other Apostles, Paul, Timothy, etc, were given specific calls or missions. Today, we are all called into the Great Commission as believers. The call is automatic, general and not discriminatory. However, as God’s way of preparing us, He requires us to be reconciled to him through the sacrifice and death of his begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Once we accept his finished work of Salvation, we automatically belong to his body – (body of Christ) and, therefore, expected to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mk 16:15). Just like Isaiah, a new believer (born again) needs purification and sanctification, to be effective and, thereby, fulfill the mission. The required cleansing at the point of salvation is done by the unblemished blood of Jesus, which He shed on the Cross for mankind. The further purification and sanctification are the works of the Holy Spirit, the third in the Trinity. With these, the believer is on the road to fulfilling the call of God.
God is willing to send you! Are you willing like Isaiah?
Be assured of God’s total backing, physical and spiritual, both for any specific call or assignment and for the Great Commission too. In Mk 16 v 20, there is recorded evidence that God backed up, as He was working with them and confirming the word through accompanying signs. Experiences in scripture and our world today show that there are likely to be suffering, challenges and let downs along the way. Successes are guaranteed at last. Also, there are great rewards that accompany these answered calls, which include heavenly crowns of life, rejoicing, inheritance with Christ (Col. 3:23-24); glory (Rom. 8:18,28), etc, above all, eternal life and reign with Christ.
CHRISTIE KUPOLUYI
To surrender your life to Jesus, say this prayer out: “Father, I acknowledge my sin against you. I repent and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
Congratulations!!! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Father of all creation, thank you for making us in your image and likeness.
Father, we appreciate your faithfulness and willingness to send us to achieve results for you on earth.
Precious Lord, as you answered the call of the Father to you for man’s redemption, accept our gratitude.
Lord, help us to appreciate and desire your call to please you.
Father, help the church to occupy its place in the Great Commission.
