Today’s Reading:

I Corinthians 6:18-20

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. (1Corinthians 6:18)

We are in a world mad about sex. Virtually every piece of content advertised on our billboards and other social media contains nudity. You don’t even need to subscribe to pornography before it will just pop up on any site you visit. Everywhere you turn, there is either a lady walking unclad or showing her cleavage. The abnormal has become normal. It is so sad that even in church, decency is disappearing gradually, and we are celebrating madness. Who bewitched the church? Wedding gowns used even in some churches are jezebelic in nature, and the pulpit never scorns them. My heart grieves for all the abnormalities in our society.

Let all men be liars, God remains faithful to His word. The standard of God hasn’t changed on the matter of immoralities, and it’s just in four letters: FLEE. Sexual immorality (Greek: porneia) refers to any sexual activity outside of the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. This includes: fornication, adultery, pornography, lust, bestiality, incest, etc. Any lustful thought is the same as committing the act, Matthew 5:28. It is not just a physical act, but a spiritual violation that affects the soul, body, and one's relationship with God. Sexual sin causes you more than you can afford, it takes you farther than you think. It’s better to avoid sexual immorality, as any venture into this activity will drag a man deep into it until such a person is reduced to nothing. Why Flee? Not just resist. The instruction isn't to "fight" or "negotiate" with sexual temptation. It is to flee – run away immediately. Why? Sexual sin is deceptive and powerfully enslaving. (Proverbs 7). It creates soul ties and has emotional/spiritual consequences. Resisting sin is good, but when it comes to lust, the safest course is distance. This is obvious in the life of Joseph as written in Genesis 39.

How do you flee from sexual immorality? You must renew your mind daily with God's Word (Romans 12:2). Avoid triggers: Guard your eyes, ears, and heart (Job 31:1). Have an accountable partner, possibly a mature believer of the same sex. Prayer and fasting are also strong weapons to put the flesh under control. You also need to fill your life with spiritual activities like listening to godly music, keeping godly company, and reading Christian books. Don’t forsake the assembly of God’s children. Have you been caught in the Web of sexual immorality? I have good news for you. You can be free again; never allow the devil to whisper to you that you can’t. No matter how deep you have gone into sin, Jesus came because of you. Purpose in your heart now and come to Him just like that prodigal son. Confess your sin, look for a mature believer who will help you grow, and victory is certain.

JAMES ALADE

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

1. Power of sin over my life, lose your hold now in Jesus’ name.

2. I receive the courage to say no to any form of sexual immorality.

3. I come out of pornography and lust today by fire in Jesus’ name.

4. Arrow of sexual immorality sent into my heart, depart in Jesus’ name.
