YOU HAVE NO CHOICE

Today’s Reading:

Jonah 2:1 - 10

In the above scripture, we read the account of Jonah's prayer of Confession in the belly of the fish. The previous chapter gives an account of how Jonah tried to evade his divine assignment by going to Tarshish. God told him to go to Nineveh and preach to the inhabitants. He refused and decided to dodge. The result is that he found himself in the belly of a fish. It was at that point he prayed the prayer of confession in chapter 2. If God has decided to use you for His kingdom work, you better obey, otherwise you will get the Jonah treatment.

There are a lot of Christians today who are passing through all kinds of difficulties, and they think it is the evil powers of their father's house or some other negative forces. All God is expecting them to do is obey. In many cases they are aware of the call of God upon their lives but have one excuse or the other for not heeding to the call. Some of the reasons given for refusing God's call could be as follows:

  1. Laziness

  2. Cares of this life and public opinion. They are concerned about what people would say.

  3. Prejudice - it could be ethnic, especially if the person is being sent to a different ethnic group. This was the problem Jonah had. He was biased against the people of Nineveh, knowing that God forgives whoever repents no matter where the person comes from.

  4. Fear of loss of material comfort.

Whatever may be your reason, don't wait until you find yourself in the belly of your own fish before you obey. I can tell you from personal experience that there is great benefit in serving God. The benefits are generational. Therefore, heed the call today. The harvest is ripe, but the labourers are few.
