Today’s Reading:

Psalm 100

“Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” (Psalm 100:3)

Psalm 100 is one of the best-known and most loved Psalms, including Psalm 23. It is a call to all the earth to worship Jehovah. Its summons goes beyond the narrow confines of Israel to all the Gentiles. One major thing every human must understand is that God created us for worship. Worship is a full-time activity. It goes beyond what we do in church alone. It is all of our lives. Worship is the act of showing reverence, adoration, and devotion to God. It goes beyond rituals or songs; it is a heartfelt response to who God is and what He has done. It is understanding the worth of God (Worth-ship) and responding through praise, prayer, service, living a holy life, giving, etcetera.

Elements of worship could be seen in that Psalm:

  • Shout joyfully (v. 1). Shouting comes when we see something strange or unexpected, but this Shout is that of joy. When we consider what nature is saying and God’s work in our lives, we should give him a joyful shout.

  • Serve the LORD with gladness (v. 2a). If there is anything God appreciates and rewards, it is our service to divinity and humanity. Service should be both within the church and everywhere we find ourselves. And this service should be done not because of gain, but with gladness to God and God alone.

  • Come before Him with singing (v. 2b). Singing is one of the most powerful and common elements of worship. Throughout the Bible, music and singing are used to express praise, gratitude, repentance, and awe towards God. It’s not just a tradition, it’s a deeply spiritual act that engages the heart, mind, and soul.

  • Enter into His gates with thanksgiving (v. 4a). Thanksgiving in worship means offering heartfelt thanks to God not just for material blessings, but for His love, salvation, mercy, and presence. It’s not limited to good times. The Bible encourages thanksgiving in all circumstances, I Thessalonians 5:18

  • Enter His courts with praise (v. 4b). Praise is a foundational element of worship. It is the joyful, vocal, and active acknowledgement of God's greatness, often expressed through words, music, and physical acts like clapping, lifting hands, or dancing.

  • Bless His name (v. 4d). To bless the name of the Lord means to speak well of God, to honour and praise His character, and to acknowledge His goodness and holiness. It is a form of worship where we express reverence, gratitude, and admiration for who God is.

The psalm ends on a note that God is good, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth is unchangeable. No matter our present predicament as an individual or nation, the truth remains that God is good. He is working out the best even in obscure situations. What you are going through may have been worse if the devil is permitted in your life, but God’s goodness has been your sustaining grace. Let’s begin to praise him because indeed and without argument, the Lord is good.

JAMES ALADE

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Eternal Father, l stand in awe of you.

  2. My Life shall continually praise your name.

  3. Help me see your goodness even in unfavourable circumstances.

  4. May your praise not leave my mouth every day of my life in Jesus’ name.
