WORKING HARD GETTING NOTHING

Today’s Reading:

Luke 5: 1 – 11

“And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, we have worked all night and have taken nothing.” (Luke 5:5a)

The text above contains several issues. It was a period Jesus called his first set of disciples. They were fishermen who were doing their daily work as usual, but that day was unusual in their lives because that singular encounter changed the course of their destiny and subsequently the decision of that day brought Christianity to where it is today. We saw from the passage that Jesus needed a pulpit to stand with to reach out to the people while Peter needed fish. Jesus approaches Peter who has been disappointed and planning to go back home. Possibly Peter would be thinking of how to face his wife and children with stories or excuses, also he might have promised some people money which he believed that after fishing he would be able to settle all the bills. It was at that critical point Jesus asked for his boat. Take away a boat from the life of a fisherman then you have taken his life. Peter had every right to reject Jesus' request, but he didn't. Don't allow what you are going through to hinder you from doing good that's the lesson l learnt from Peter. But our focus is on verse 5a of our text. When Jesus asked Peter to launch out into the deep, Peter said, 'Master we have worked all night and have taken nothing'.

What's the meaning of working hard and getting nothing? When you labour and there's no result. And when there is no result, there will be insults. When you have invested in a particular business and all went down the drain. When you have done all that is needed to be done yet there is no definite progress. When you have put all mercenaries in place and expect results but all failed woefully. This is nothing but a spirit of wastage. Time, money and resources wastage. So many people are working hard yet there's no result. I pray for you today that God will intervene in your case in Jesus' name. Why do we work hard and get nothing? When you are not skilful enough. When you abandon God, when you reject godly counsel, when the spirit of wastage is at work in your life, when the spirit of pilferage is working in your life when you partner with a cursed person or work in a cursed establishment. You might not be getting anything possibly God is trying to get your attention and want to perform a miracle in your life.

There are some signs that you need to look out for. One, when people always owe you after you have worked for them and they don't pay in time. Two, when people are interested in using you and dump you. Three, when you see signs of disappointment or denial of agreement. Fourth, dreaming of working in the dream and never finishing to get your pay. Five, when you always see a strongman (same face) maltreating you in the dream. To every problem, there is a solution. Some of the solutions include; getting the necessary skills, examining your life and ways, surrendering your life to Jesus and fleeing from sin then praying until something happens. It's not the will of God for you to always work hard and get nothing. He has a good plan for you. You need to arise and change the status quo. Enough is enough for the wasters in your life, family, business and ministry. Heaven is ready to attend to your case if only you are ready to battle in the place of prayers. Your story must change whether the enemy likes it or not.

JAMES ALADE

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You, I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of the Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank You, Lord”.

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend priest or pastor

Prayer Points:

  1. Powers that make people in my generation work hard without results, your time is up, die in Jesus' name.

  2. Powers that rob me of my profit, be wasted in Jesus' name

  3. All my profits and rewards that have been stolen; l recover them back by fire in Jesus' name.

  4. I refuse to continue this way; my story must change in Jesus' name.
