Today’s Reading:

Philippians 2:12-18

’Wherefore, my beloved, work out your salvation with fear and trembling’’ (v.12)

Salvation is a gift of God, not earned, merited, or worked for (Eph. 2:8-9). However, in verse 12 of the Reading, we are instructed to work out (not for) “your own salvation”, with fear and trembling. This implies that the gifted salvation can be lost, taken away or given up by one. There is an erroneous believe that once saved, saved forever. While it is true that God is able to save to the uttermost (Heb. 7:25), it is also true that man has his own role to play. Man is, therefore, expected to work out his salvation in order to be saved to the end/uttermost.

How does one work out his salvation?

By cultivating, carrying out to the goal, and fully completing, with reverence and awe your salvation. Also, with trembling, which means self-distrusting, serious caution, watchfulness against temptation, shrinking from whatever might offend God, and discredit the name of Christ (AMP).

It is instructive to note that once saved, the devil is out to contested with one’s salvation. He is angry, struggles and fights with the saved, with the aim of making him loose the salvation. He knows that the saved person will not share with him, the lake of fire which God has prepared for him. In V13 (AMP) of the Reading, there is the assurance that it is God who is all the while sufficiently at work in you (energizing and creating in you the power and desire), not in your own strength, to overcome ultimately.

In working out one’s salvation, attention must be paid to total obedience to God and his Word (John 14:23), deliberately trying to be like Christ (our example) in everything; walking in the light (Matt. 5:16), living in the power of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:25), and holding forth the Word of life.

What Are The Outcomes Of Working Out Your Salvation?

In verse15 of the Reading, it is said that you may become blameless, harmless, a child of God, without rebuke, showing Christ’s examples in the midst of this crooked and perversed world, (and especially in our nation), and that you may shine as light in the dark world.

CHRISTIE KUPOLUYI

Prayer:

  1. Father, I bless you for the gift of salvation for me and my family members, in Jesus name.

  2. I resolve to work out my salvation with the help of God, with fear and trembling, in Jesus name.

  3. Father, please help the saints to be focused on working out their salvation wherever they are, in Jesus name.

  4. I pray that the light of the Gospel will shine into every nooks and cranes of our nation, so that darkness is totally dispelled, in Jesus name.

  5. Father, let there be great harvests of souls throughout the world, as Christ’s coming is nearer ever day, in Jesus name.
