Work out your Salvation

Today’s Reading:

Phil. 2:12-28 (12)

“… Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling (vs.12)

Obedience to the will of God in response to God’s grace is essential for the saving of our souls (I Cor. 15:10, Gal. 5 Heb. 5:8-9). It is not that one obeys in order to be saved. He obeys because he is saved by God’s grace through his obedience of the gospel.

The issue of salvation is germane and pertinent to making heaven. There are erroneous teachings going on today that once you are saved it doesn’t matter what you do even if you commit sin you have been forgiven without necessarily confessing again and again. Two things I would like to stress from the above passage WORK AND SALVATION. Any work done or better still, good works done cannot bring salvation. It is by grace through faith we are saved not of works (Ephesians 2:8-9). No work done can bring salvation. Salvation is totally by grace through faith in Christ Jesus.

Immediately we are saved there is need for work. Work done after salvation is rewarding here and hereafter. To work out means to train oneself, solve, get something done, fix, find out, figure out, develop, devise etc. The day one confesses Jesus as personal Saviour and Lord, work has started. I am not talking about setting rules and regulations so as to please God. As much as that is good, it is not the best. This work is done by God in us. Verse 13 says for it is God who works in you… God is working in us to live a holy life and please Him. We cannot please God with human effort. Several people find it difficult to live a holy life because they are doing it with human effort. The Bible says for by strength shall no man prevail.

We need to surrender totally to Him so that we can get strength needed for the work of the kingdom. There is no excuse for sinning. As God works in us to supply the ability to say No to sin we must supply the willingness so as to get outstanding result. Other works to be done are written in the passage we are considering.

  1. Oh Lord, I surrender my human efforts and I receive divine enablement for the journey ahead, in Jesus name.

  2. shall not fall by the way side, in Jesus name.

  3. I receive grace to live a holy live, in Jesus name.

  4. Power of the wicked ones waging war against Christians in this nation be destroyed, in Jesus name.

  5. Ever altar of worldliness and ungodliness in the church catch fire and be destroyed, in Jesus name.
