Today’s Reading:
Proverbs 1:1-7

The first Chapter of the book of Proverbs starts with the introduction of the author of the book, King Solomon who succeeded his father, David as king of Israel. We are all familiar with the conversation between Solomon and God, and how God gave him wisdom. The chapter points out the essence of obtaining the wisdom of God. However, wisdom cannot come to you unless you fear God. The chapter says that the fear of God is the beginning of understanding:
It is only when you fear God that God will give you a deep understanding of the mysteries of life.
The fear of God takes you into God's secret place
The fear of God grants you unlimited access to divine wisdom
The fear of God gives you access to His untold riches (beyond financial riches)
The fear of God grants you a long life
The fear of God is a fountain of life
The first instruction in wisdom is that you should not be a partaker of evil. It says, if sinners entice you, do not consent. This brings to mind, the effect of social media on society. When you are forwarding damaging information about someone without first, verifying its authenticity, it means you are consenting to doing evil.
The second is that wisdom cries out in the streets to come and receive it freely. Wisdom is saying seek me, and live. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God (1st Corinthians 1 vs 24). Therefore, accept Christ as your saviour and obtain divine wisdom.
Therefore, if you want to increase in knowledge and understanding in these troubling times, you must develop the fear of God.
