Today’s Readings:

Isaiah 49:8-15

Psalm 145:8-9,13b-14,17-18

John 5:17-30

The most difficult question I have ever had to answer is: “Father, has God forgotten me?” This is difficult on several levels because a person needs to have gone through a very difficult, gruesome and even painful experience for which they feel forsaken to make such an utterance or statement.

But there is consolation for us in the words of the Prophet Isaiah:

“Does a woman forget her baby at the breast, or fail to cherish the son of her womb? Yet even if these forget, I will never forget you.” (Isaiah 49:14,15).

With these words, God assures us that He is not like humans who forget. He is not caught up in personal interest. He is Love incarnate. What does love do? Love reaches out and desires the good of the other person. We too ought to see the good in others (in ourselves as well) and to seek the good of others. Jesus does the work of the Father, and he is aligned with the will of the Father in all that He does: “the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees the Father doing: and whatever the Father does the Son does too”. Can we say, as Christians, that our will, desires and actions are reflective of the work of God?

The reason we often feel disconnected from God is that we are not with God. God is with us, but we are not with Him. This is why we can become disillusioned. You may be doing something now that seems interesting, profitable or important. But if you are not doing it with God and for Him, you will soon begin to question yourself.

Do these things daily to stay connected to God:

  • Begin your day with prayer, not with your phone. Make the sign of the Cross. Invite the Holy Spirit and speak sincerely to God; ask Him to take control of your day.

  • Read the Scriptures —When you pray, God listens. When you read the Scriptures, God speaks to you (Catechism No. 109). Make God the first person you hear from daily.

  • Remain in a state of grace— do not allow anyone or anything to lead you into sin. Be on your guard.

  • Attend Mass/Service whenever you can— Take advantage of Jesus’ presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

  • Communicate often with your family—Have a real thriving relationship with your parents, siblings and children.

  • Have a real connection to your faith community —Be active at the parish or church you attend and touch base with your priest/pastor and people in your pious society.

  • Stay away from people who do not mean well for you— Those who introduce you to vice, harmful influences and substances do not mean well for you. Flee from them. They are not your friends.

Task: Prayerfully read and meditate on Psalm 145.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer out. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. May God our Almighty Father bless you. May Jesus intercede for you with His Father and obtain the graces you need and offer you divine consolation and blessings, so that your life and actions will align God’s will for you, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalms 139:7-12 "Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." Watch over me and all that I care about this day and always. Amen.
