Today’s Reading:
Mark 16:1 - 8
“And they said among themselves, who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” (Mark 16:3)
From the passage above, the women brought spices after the Sabbath to go and prepare the body of Jesus for its final rest. The customary burial preparation for Jesus’ body has been done on Friday since the Sabbath was on Saturday. However, the complete preparations were not finished. Therefore, the women (Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome) sought to finalize the preparation. They possibly wanted to pay a final homage or respect to the one they thought would be the Saviour of Israelites from the Romans. The fact that they brought spices to prepare the body of Jesus suggested that they were not expecting him to resurrect. Their major concern in the passage was verse three. They asked a very disturbing question ‘Who will roll away the stone”?
In life especially when we are faced with critical issues, we tend to ask some questions. Some are rhetorical while some demand answers. But not all questions we ask on this side of the divide will receive answers. Though God answers some, they may come in different packages. The major issue to them was the stone and who will roll it away. More often than not, we worry in life about some stones that are standing as a hindrance to our next level. Your stone may be childlessness, joblessness, poverty or what a view. At times we seriously expect some people to roll away such stones but, in most cases, help never comes from them.
In verse four, the scriptures say, ‘But when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away, for it was very great.’ What are the stones of problems, calamity, disappointment etc. in your life? You have been asking the same question the women in our text asked. May I announce to you that divine intervention is taking place already? Look at that problem again, is it an ailment or sickness or disease? God has sent his angel to roll it away. The Egyptians you see today, you will see them no more. Shake your body, take that step of faith, and stand from your sick bed for that pain has gone. The stone has been rolled away. Celebrate your healing now. It’s happening now in the name of Jesus. May your testimony remain permanent in Jesus' name. Hallelujah!
