Today’s Reading:
Exodus 3:1-12
“And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people Which are in Egypt and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; For I know their sorrows; 8) And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, land the Jebusites.”
(vv. 7-8, AKJV)

When God called Abraham, He said in Genesis 17:1 “…walk before me and be thou perfect.” God told Abraham to walk before him and be perfect so that His covenant will be established upon Abraham and his seed (generation). Abraham’s seed (Israelite) became God’s people because Abraham walked perfectly before God. The people of God can also be called the family of God. What does it take to be God’s people or become a family of God? When we walk before God perfectly and blameless, then, we will become God’s people.
In verse 7 of the Bible reading, God told Moses that, I have surely seen the affliction of my people in Egypt, that was the first thing God saw in the lives of His people. Secondly, He heard their cry. Thirdly, God knew their sorrows. Why did God see? Because they are God’s people. Their forefather (Abraham) walked with God perfectly and blamelessly, his seed became God’s people by the covenant made by God and to Abraham. The people of Israel became a subject of oppression in Egypt, by doing hard labour, they were sorrowful and began to cry unto God. God came down to rescue them from affliction and sorrow. I don’t know the affliction you are passing through, being sorrowful, and you are now crying unto God for deliverance, it seems your prayer is not answered, or God did not attend to your prayer, or your everyday crying unto God is hopeless, why? Because you have never been part of God’s people or the family of God.
If you want to become God’s people, you need to walk perfectly before God and be blameless. Receive Jesus Christ into your life and follow/obey His commandment.
