WAITING FOR GOD

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 38:15,22

" For I am waiting for you, O Lord. You must answer me, O Lord God. Come quickly to help me O Lord my Saviour." (vv. 15,22)

Waiting time is not usually a palatable moment in one's life. From dictionary, to wait is to remain stationary in readiness of expectation. It is a state or attitude of watchfulness and expectancy. To wait for God therefore means, being hopeful on God. It is exercising patience with faith and assurance that God will give you the right solution and assistance at the appointed time. In the Bible, we have examples like Abraham and Sarah, Zachariah and Elizabeth, Joseph, Job, and several others who waited for God until He intervened in their matter.

Sometimes people are not favourably disposed to waiting for God due to lack of faith, humanity in man, ungodly counsel, fear of the unknown, delayed, or slow response to their request and so many other reasons. The psalmist in our text in view of his sinful life recounts his various predicaments, ranging from various wounds, pains, health challenge, unrest, anguish, loss of strength, friendless, loneliness, enemies within and without, evil imagination and various discouragingly situations. He discovered his helplessness without God. That made him to shift his focus and attention from self and people to God (v.18). In verse 15, the psalmist realised that it is only in waiting for God you can have your strength renewed (Isaiah 40:31); prayers receive divine attention (Jeremiah 33:3; Psalm 40:1); experience the desired change in your life (Job 14:14). People who wait for Him enjoy joy and gladness. God will be gracious to them and also becomes their salvation in time of trouble (Isaiah 40:13, 17). You are also assured of victory from the enemies (2 Samuel 22:40).

Is your experience similar to the psalmist or even worst, it does not matter how you view it, remember, if you can wait for Him, He will not disappoint like men do. He knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). He knows all things and He can do all things. Nothing is impossible with Him (Luke 1:37; Jeremiah 32:17,27). He has solution to what you might be going through right now. He has the power to deal with your fear and anxiety (Isaiah 41:10). If you will also do what the psalmist did in Psalm 38:18 by acknowledging your sins and confess it to God, He will quickly come to your aid and arrest that situation. Do not be in a hurry to seek human solution to your problems, wait for God. He will soon show up on your behalf and put a new song in your mouth.
