TOXICITY OF SIN

Today’s Reading:

Ex.32:15-24, 30-34; Matt.13:31-35

Many unlawful acts practised by people are like deliberately gulping up the poison. Sin does not allow God to move with his people as he is supposed to, and it cripples the extent to which a sinner can go. There are many things people put in place of God which cause problems to them. (1) It hinders/blocks the exposition of God’s message. When people committed the sin of idolatry, the message of God’s commandment could not reach them as the tablet was furiously smashed by Moses. (2) It stirs up God’s wrath. God cannot overlook a sin a sinner commits except when he sincerely comes back to God to beg for forgiveness. (3) It causes death. Physical and spiritual deaths are also other dangers resulting from sin. (Ex. 32:27-28). This is a serious outcome of sin(s) committed against God. God of Yahweh must not be substituted for any other god or goddess.

The clear message Moses was bringing to them later became a difficult message to interpret. They heard God’s word, but they did not understand (Luke 8:10). This was done to actually know who is on the Lord’s side – those on the side of God understand his word as he speaks in parables since then (Matthew 13:11). The Kingdom of God is great; it must be expanded within the heart of men. Its expansion starts from the earth; if it does not expand in one’s heart, it cannot expand on the earth and if it cannot expand on the earth then few people will have their way in it.

SUNDAY OYEDELE OLOYEDE

Prayer:

  1. My Father, empower me to die to my sinful nature, raised in Christ Jesus and let your Holy Spirit take control of my life, in Jesus name.

  2. My Father, do not allow sin to overcome my life, in Jesus name.

  3. Father, by your mighty power, destroy the stronghold of sinfulness in our nation, in Jesus name.

  4. My Father, by the blood of Jesus, cleanses and strengthen my inner-man, and cause me to be on fire for you, in Jesus name.

  5. Father Lord, grant more labourers in Your vineyard; increase and strengthen Your Kingdom, in Jesus name.
