The Voice of God breaks Silence

Today’s Reading:

1 Samuel 3: 1-20

“Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.” (v. 1)

The word of the Lord was rare during this period, (according to our bible passage; 1 Samuel 3: 1-20) but the boy Samuel heard from the Lord because he was chosen and called. Samuel, though a child was faithfully committed to serving God. He was serving God diligently under Eli. He was also loyal and obedient to Eli. Samuel must have seen all that the children of Eli were doing, but he did not copy their deeds and he still had respect and love for Eli. He looked unto His experience in service. When God called him, he kept going to Eli, thinking Eli was the one calling - 1 Samuel 3:5 So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” In I Samuel 3:9-10, Samuel did exactly what Eli asked him to do and God began to speak to him. In his service to God under Eli, Samuel’s focus was God and not man as highlighted in Ephesians 6:5 Bond servants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ.

Every relationship, every opportunity, every moment of work, play, and rest is an opportunity for you to be attentive to God. In his last night of earthly life before his crucifixion, Jesus told his disciples that it would be better for them when he leaves, because then he would send the Advocate—the Holy Spirit, the one who will guide us into all truth (John 16: 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.) God has chosen the dwelling place of his Spirit to be within believers. He speaks through external means (his world and his Word), and he speaks through internal means (the Spirit). Everything speaks of God’s presence to us if we can continue in the small and simple belief that this is true. With that mustard seed of faith, with the knowledge that God speaks to you through his creation and through his Word, you can go into each day not just hopeful but also expectant that God is walking with you. However, you can never enjoy His presence and joy except you surrender to Him. If you are not complete obedience by total surrender, start now. James 4: 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Believe Him today and He will begin to release hidden things unto you. God is still speaking. Hallelujah!
