THE VIOCE OF THE LORD

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 29:1-11

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all his commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth” (Deuteronomy 28:1)

This Psalm is a Psalm of praise to God. The Psalmist hears the voice of God even in the thunderstorm. He testifies that all creation manifests the power and glory of God. The term “Voice” of the Lord denotes the testimonies of the created order to the splendor and majesty of God (Psalm 19:1-4); apart from the “Word” of the Lord which is a more direct revelation of God to the prophets of old.

Like the saints of old, we should be able to discern the glory and majesty of God by meditation on the things God had created. Moreover, God reveals Himself to us through corporate worship (Acts 13:1-3) and through the scriptures (Luke 24:32). God in these last days is speaking to us by His son – Jesus Christ (Heb. 1:1-3). He may also speak to us through dreams and visions and by special revelation. The purpose of God’s voice is to reveal His majesty (Isaiah. 6:1-8), to show us our wretchedness, sanctify and deliver us from sin and oppression (Gen.3:8-9).

We should submit ourselves to God in adoration and worship, and then we should repent and surrender ourselves to serve His purpose after He had cleansed and sanctified us (Isa. 6:5,8b). If we diligently obey the voice of the Lord, His blessings would be guaranteed upon our lives according to (Deut. 28:1-14):

  • He will set you high above all the nations of the earth

  • You shall be blessed in the city and in the country; lend to many nations

  • Your children & the works of your hands shall be blessed

  • God will bless your going out and coming in; You will be the head and not the tail.

  • Your enemies shall be defeated; your storehouse shall be blessed.
