Today’s Reading:
I John 3:11 – 17
“Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous.” (I John 3:12)

Cain was the firstborn of Adam, and we can say he was the firstborn of humanity. He was a farmer. He was supposed to be an example to his younger brother but he did otherwise, he killed him. The spirit of Cain is a very terrible one and it’s still in existence today. This is a spirit of jealousy, pride, offense, and hatred. It is a religious life with no real relationship or repentance. The desire to eliminate what convicts you, rather than change. The spirit that always want to condemn good things. It resents the righteous instead of respecting them. It justifies sin and ignores divine correction. It leads to spiritual and emotional murder, slander, envy and betrayal.
Many people today attend church, sing, preach, but carry envy, pride, and hidden anger. That’s the spirit of Cain which is outward worship but inward poison. Jealousy makes us hate people who reflect what we should become. If care is not taken when we slander others instead of honouring them, that’s the spirit of Cain. When we feel bitter about another person’s success. When we attack what we don’t understand or want to become.
Beloved, allow the Spirit of God to put a searchlight upon your heart. Is the spirit of Cain not domicile in your life? How long will you keep malice with that fellow? You cannot continue your Christian life this way. If truly you want to make heaven, you need to deal with the spirit of Cain.
JAMES ALADE
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully seek out a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor, or priest.
Prayer:
Spirit of Cain in my life, l cast you out by fire in Jesus’ name.
Deliver me from jealousy and hatred in Jesus’ name
I receive grace to forgive and let go in Jesus’ name
Arrow of hatred in my heart, out by fire in Jesus’ name.
