Today’s Reading:
Amos 4: 6-13
Romans 2:3–11
“And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds. (Romans 2:4-6)
Eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honour, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; but glory, honour, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. Our God is holy. 1 Peter 1: 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
Therefore, to enjoy His presence and understand who He is, you have to follow His path of holiness, that is, follow Him in faith knowing fully well that He can see all things. He sees all things, and nothing can be hidden from Him (Hebrews 4: 13). However, we behave, we shall one day face Him for judgement, but our God is a perfect Judge. He has absolute knowledge of all acts, thoughts and motives. He can judge the secrets of men's hearts. He knows all the truth; nothing can be withheld from Him and He is not a respecter of persons but treats each one impartially. He detects sins of omission as easily as sins of commission, secret sins as easily as public ones. This great God that is so high and undiluted, reverential and awesome operates in righteousness and justice and is always inviting us to come to Him in faith despite who we are. For He is full of compassion and loving to all. This love is revealed in what He did for you and for all - (John 3: 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life).
We need to know that even though a Judge, the Almighty is full of compassion for His people. He is called El Rachum - God of mercy, The compassionate God. His nature is of kindness. Therefore, He is completely free from cruelty or pettiness. Deuteronomy 4:31 (for the LORD your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.) In the reference Bible passage Amos 4: 6-13, We can see the folly of carnal hearts; they wander from one creature to another, seeking for something to give them satisfaction, and labour for that which satisfies not. In spite of chastisement that is meant to put them on straight path, they will not incline their ear to Him in whom they might find all they can ever want. The end of such is always destruction. As much as God is merciful and compassionate, He is also a God that chastises His children to make them perfect like Him (Hebrews 12: 6-8). He is also a Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12: 29).
Brethren, we must be careful how we walk and what we do because we shall one day face the Judge of the universe. God commands us in 1 Peter 1:16 “Be holy, for I am holy.”. We cannot entangle ourselves in iniquity and expect Him to be near us. He loves sinners but He hates sin. God’s eyes are too pure to behold iniquity (Habakkuk 1: 13). Walk upright and He will be your friend and an enemy to your enemies. This awesome God is inviting you today to come - Isaiah 55: 1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price. His loving outstretched arms are waiting to receive you. He will not despise your repentant heart (Psalm 51: 17).
