Today’s Reading:
ISAIAH 49:1-7
"And he said to me, you are my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified" (v. 3)
God does not call the qualified to work for him, but He qualified those He has called. He needed those who will respond to his call and submit completely to the instruction of the Holy Spirit per second. They are the ones He will fill with his power, equip, strengthened, and use them for his glory on this planet earth. A servant is someone who surrenders his or her will, purpose, life, plan, and totality for master’s use. A servant is one who allows the master to form and shape his or her life to suit the agenda of his master.
Moses, a murderer (Exodus 2:14) and a shepherd (Exodus 3:1) was qualified and used by God to fulfil His agenda in delivering the Israelites out of the hand of Egyptians to a land flowing with milk and honey (Exodus 3:7-10). So also, God called David, the last born in the house of Jesse who was inexperienced in battle, but God used him mightily to deliver Israelites from the hand of Philistine. God gave David victory in all the battles he fought because he surrendered himself for God’s use. Prophet Isaiah was a man of unclean lips and God purged him, touched his lips, removed all his iniquities and made him feet to be His service (Isaiah 6:5-8). Saul who became Paul was a wicked and persecutor of God’s children before God encountered him on the way to Damascus and he surrendered his life to be used by God for His purpose (Acts 9:6). God used him to deliver people from darkness (Satan) to light (Jesus Christ) and to perform unspeakable miraculous signs and wonders on earth.
In the passage read, we were made to understand that:
God calls his servant from the mother’s womb (Jer.1:5; Matt.1:20-21).
God knows the name of his servant (Isaiah 49:1).
God makes the word in his servant’s mouth like a sharp sword (Jer.1:9-10; Jer.5:14).
God protects his servant from all evil and hid him in the shadow of his hand (Isaiah 49:2).
God made his into a polished arrow and concealed him in his quiver (Isaiah 49:2).
God’s name is glorified in the life of his servant (Isaiah 49:3).
God strengthens his servant (Isaiah 49:5).
It is indeed a privilege to be named, chosen or called the servant of God because He doesn’t need a perfect man or woman, but He made them perfect instrument for his assignment on earth. If you have given your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you are a servant of God and He has given you the Ministry of Reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18).
