Today’s Reading:

Deuteronomy 18:15 – 20

‘’The Lord your God will raise up unto you a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brethren, like unto me; unto Him you shall hearken.” (v.15)

Moses tells the people that the Lord will sent them a prophet who will speak for him and whom everyone must obey.

Who is this Prophet? Stephen used this verse to support his claim that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, the Messiah – Acts 7: 37. Apostle Peter also quotes – Deuteronomy 18: 15 when he said, ‘’For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from among his people – Acts 3: 22 – 23’’.

The new Testament in the gospel as recorded by John makes it clear that Jesus Christ was the ultimate fulfilment of his promise. ‘’ After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, ‘’Surely this is the prophet who is to come into the world – John 6: 14. Jesus Christ the prophet Messiah came to the world to salvage the human race from impending destruction. It is imperative for all mankind to trust and obey this Messiah, anything aside will end such in hell fire. The love of God brought Him (the Prophet Messiah) to come and live among his people. ‘’For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life – John 3: 16’’. Whoever believe in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already …. John3: 18.

For anyone to escape the impending danger, he must obey the commandment of God has sent through the Prophet.

The people of Israel after God has spoken to them while giving the Ten Commandment and they saw the thunder and lightning, they heard the trumpet and saw the hills and mountains in smoke. They were terrified – terribly terrified. Staying in a distance, they warned Moses not to allow God to speak to them directly, but through him – Moses. It was this scenario that brought about the promise of a prophet in the likeness of Moses from among them.

Yes! God is awesome. Anything about Him should make anyone fear. But when sin enters into a man, he will not care, who God is. No wonder Moses told the Israelites; ‘’Do not be afraid". God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning – Exodus 20: 20. When the fear of God resides in a man, he will be far away from sin.
