Today’s Reading:
Genesis. 44:1-17
“And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth. And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken. As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses. And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good? Is not this it in which my Lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing. And he overtook them, and he spake unto them these same words. And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my Lord these words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this thing: Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal out of thy Lord's house silver or gold? With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my Lord's bondmen. And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be blameless. Then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground and opened every man his sack. And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack. Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city. And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house; for he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground. And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine? And Judah said, What shall we say unto my Lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my Lord's servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found. And he said, God forbid that I should do so: but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.” (vv. 1-17, KJV)
The passage for our consideration is the story of the eventuality of the evil done by the patriarchs ( Joseph's senior brother's) against Joseph when he was age 17yrs ( Genesis 37:2) with the mind of ending his dreams and purpose in life by selling him into slavery (Genesis 37:28) and he went from prison to prison until it was time for God to take him into the palace at age 30yrs as second in command to pharaoh the king of Egypt (Genesis 41:39-46)
Just as the patriarchs conspired against Joseph, Judas Iscariot went to the Jews and conspired against our Lord Jesus (John 18:2) which led to the crucifixion, death on the cross and resurrection. And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house (Acts 7:9-10 KJV) . Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. (Psalm 37:1, 4, 10-11 KJV). The God we serve is a God of process, who allow evil schemers to perform what ordinarily would have destroyed or terminate the life but because He knows about it before it begins, then turns the situation to bring forth His glory. Joseph was destined to rule, just as our Lord Jesus was by the dreams of Joseph and prophecies before the birth of Christ Jesus.
Therefore, there is no conspiracy or divination against Joseph that can stop God's divine process or intention (Numbers 23:23). Proverbs 11:21b "... but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. God has the ultimate power to deliver and to save (Daniel 6:22), to make negative situations work for the good of His children, to use evil intended actions, contention, and congregation of evil doers to bring glory and honour to his name (Esther 6:10 & 7:9-10).
