Today’s Reading:
Numbers 27:12-23
“For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.” (Numbers 27:14)

People envy the leadership position because of the attention it commands and accolades given, but the plight and peril attached to the leadership position is grave. Anyone who wants to be a leader, especially in the Christian fold must count the cost and be ready to abide by the rule of the game. It is easier for a follower to fall, and it may not be noticed easily, but when a leader falls, it will affect a whole lot of people and the work itself. Every God’s election of a man or nation comes with responsibility. It is not a gainsay, Moses was a leader per excellence, in fact, after Jesus, permit me to say that the greatest human leader was Moses. Several miracles were performed through him in the land of Egypt, which has never happened again, he led millions of the people of God out of the land of Egypt (Exodus 12:37), through him the Lord parted the Red Sea while the Egyptians died in the same water(Exodus 14:22-23). He was always listening for the people's instruction at times as they journeyed in the wilderness. Moses was a god to the people. On some occasions, he would climb the mount with God and stay there for days, on his return, no one would be able to look him in the face because the glory was so much to behold with ordinary eyes. He spoke with God face to face and at a point he demanded from God that he would like to see His face. The way God related with Moses was superb and outstanding. Moses was a man of God indeed without any doubt. The Bible testified about him that he was the meekest man on earth (Numbers 12:3).
With all these strong resumes, one would expect that such a man is near perfection. You can even call him second in command to God. But at a point in his leadership role, he did what brought him woe. What he did brought his leadership to an abrupt end. He finished but he didn’t finish well and strong. He was wounded so there was a need to go off the stage for another to take his place. In the book of Numbers 20: 10-11, the children of Israel needed water during their journey in the wilderness to the Promised Land. The Lord told Moses to speak to the rock that was ahead of them, but Moses did otherwise. Moses did three things that angered God. One, he didn’t return glory to God by saying that “Can we bring out water from the rock for you”. Two, he called the people of God rebels and three he struck the rock and the New Testament made it clear that the rock was Christ I Corinthians 10:4. Moses usually intercede for the people anytime there ere but when it was the turn of Moses, the Bible didn’t record any plea from the people to God. That is one of the challenges of the anointed. The closer a man is to God, the closer he is to punishment. If your destiny is great, god will not allow you to go away with some things. The anointing attracts both heaven and hell. It comes with opportunity and calamity. It can take a man up and also bring a man down to the grave.
Do you carry grace for this generation? Have you sensed the anointing of God upon your life? Are you longing for the anointing of God upon your life? Then you must know that there are plights and perils attached. Some have fallen on the battle field and heaven replaced them. I pray for you that heaven will not mourn over your life in Jesus’ name.
JAMES ALADE
