Today’s Reading:
Psalm 128
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to Him.” (Psalm 128:1).
Psalm 128 is an extension of Psalm 127. It is a family psalm pointing to blessings that will be enjoyed by the man who fears the Lord. It actually and specifically points to a man as in the father of the house who fears God as we can see from the statements in verses 3 and 4. Passwords are being set by people to safeguard unwanted entrance into their information. In like manner, there is a password to receive some spectacular God’s blessings. If there is one unique password needed to access divine blessings it is the fear of God. To fear God is to hate sin, to honour God with that entire thing one possesses, to obey God at all times, to hate what God hates and love what God loves.
The fear of God as stated in verse one of Psalm 128 opens doors for the blessings that follow in the succeeding verses. Such a man will eat the fruits of his labour, blessings and prosperity will be his. The blessing will not only be enjoyed by him rather his household too. His wife will be like a fruitful vine, his children will be like olive shoots (verse 3). This man will also enjoy the prosperity and blessings of his country and longevity of life (v. 6).
The question now is do we still have men who fear God? Men whose household will be blessed due to their right standing with God. It is so pathetic that few men if not a few can be found in our generation. There is a paradigm shift to taking care of the girl- child in doing chores and becoming responsible than boys. And woe betide us if we raise responsible and god-fearing girls without responsible and god-fearing boys to marry them later in life.
This generation needs to arise to raise godly boys who will in turn become godly men so that through them their families can be blessed.
