Today’s Reading:

Psalm 23:1 - 6

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want” (v. 1)

A shepherd is a person whose job is to give adequate care and attention to the sheep. Caring for the sheep is by no means an easy job. It involves taking the sheep out for grazing in the most fertile pasture, protecting the sheep against all forms of perils, demonstrate compassion for the sheep and above all get them back on track when they fall out of line or stray away. In other words, a shepherd must be seen to be loving and passionate about his sheep.

According to John 10:11-16, A loving shepherd gives His life for the sheep but one who is not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. A loving shepherd knows the sheep and the sheep knows him. When a dangerous animal takes any of the sheep, he will run after it, strike it, and deliver it from its mouth and when it arises against the shepherd, he will strike and kill it (1 Sam. 17:33-35).

Jesus Christ is our loving shepherd who willingly laid down His life for His sheep (us) that we may become saved. We are assured of His continued presence with us, even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil. His “STAFF” is there to guide us against straying away and per adventure we do, His “ROD” is there to reprove us. The great dimension of His love is shown to us by leaving the ninety – nine at the sheep pen to look for one that is missing. Jesus is indeed a caring, a good and loving shepherd. The best you can do for yourself is to surrender your life to Him and follow His steps in every way.
