Today’s Reading:

Psalm 99: 1-9 (NKJV)

“The LORD reigns; Let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim; Let the earth be moved! The LORD is great in Zion, And He is high above all the peoples. Let them praise Your great and awesome name— He is holy. The King’s strength also loves justice; You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His footstool— He is holy. Moses and Aaron were among His priests, And Samuel was among those who called upon His name; They called upon the LORD, and He answered them. He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar; They kept His testimonies and the ordinance He gave them. You answered them, O LORD our God; You were to them God-Who-Forgives, Though You took vengeance on their deeds. Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the LORD our God is holy. (Psalm 99:1-9 NKJV)

Our God reigns. His holiness is a part of everything He is and does. God is Holy in His power. God’s love is a holy love. God’s wisdom is a holy wisdom. Holiness is not an aspect of God’s personality; it is the essence of His entire Being.

The psalmist’s presentation of the holiness of God is helpful not only for our understanding of just who God is, but also for our discernment of what it means to belong to a God who is holy the priests of Leviticus repeatedly implore worshippers of God to be holy because the Lord their God is holy (Leviticus 11: 44) For I am the LORD your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth., (Leviticus 19:2) “Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy. (Psalm 990 is bringing us unto a reflection on what holiness on our part should be i.e., to be different because the Lord our God is different. We are not of the world though in the world, ( John 15: 18-20, John 17: 16). We must therefore be different.

Following paths that are not those of least resistance and operating according to the principles that do not always put our personal wants and pleasures first may be the most profound means by which we can “extol the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountain” (Psalm 99:9 Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the LORD our God is holy). God is revealed in His Holy Strength and in the forgiveness of our sins. If you are out of His HOLINESS, come unto Him, in His love, He will forgive and His blood will wipe away your sins. Confess Him as Lord today and He will give you grace to be Holy as He is.

  1. Magnify the Holy One of Israel. Appreciate Him for the Holiness that is revealed in His strength and power, His love, His wisdom and His mercy by which our sins are forgiven. Praise His Holy name.

  2. In any way, you have fallen short of His glory, ask for mercy, in the name of Jesus.

  3. Father, please sanctify me Holy and let me be like, and manifest the fruit of the Spirit, in the name of Jesus.

  4. In your Holiness show mercy on my nation and you will be done, in the name of Jesus.

  5. Father, let the power of your holiness be revealed in a greater dimension in your church, in the name of Jesus.
