2 KINGS 4:8-9
Introduction
We live in a dispensation where people pursue power without seeking the necessary prerequisites for attaining it. A close examination of the Scripture gives us a glimpse of the secret behind the exploits of the great men and women of the Past generation. Learning from them will enable us to attain their spiritual heights of divine possibilities. Holiness and power are inseparably linked together, and one cannot exist without the other. A holy man is a man who wields the awesome power of God. Elisha was referred to as “a holy man of God” by the Shunammite woman. The phrase “man of God “ is used in Scripture for men of proven testimonies, men of integrity, and probity, men convicted about the standard of God’s word, men who stood for God despite the prevalent corruption and compromise of their age like David, Elijah, Elisha, John the Baptist, Peter, Paul and a host of others. It is interesting to know the ultimate purpose of the Scripture is “that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works”. (2 Timothy 3:17).
THE PERSONAL INTEGRITY AND HOLY CHARACTER.
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Personal integrity is indispensable to a healthy spiritual life. Ministers are to be a beacon of light to their followers. But when they are caught in the web of moral pollution and corruption, their testimony is soiled.
THE POWERFUL INFLUENCE OF HEROIC COURAGE
A holy man is an awesome Power in the hand of God. He is an instrument through which God transmits his Wonders. His influence is unimaginable. His authority is unchallenging. If we are to be ministers of great influence and maintain the same, John Wesley counsels, “Beware of sins of commission, be a man of one book – the Bible study and meditate. Give no place to sloth.
POSITIVE INSPIRATION OF A HOLY CONVICTION
The measure of leadership is determined by its ability to inspire others for a common cause. Leaders inspire, create commitment and act as role models by their conviction. The awesome power of inspiration of a man of God can save a whole Nation and preserve the eternal heritage of mankind. Such was Mordecai’s challenge to Esther that ignited the queen’s sense of commitment, even to the self-sacrificing of her life: ‘… if I perish, I perish.’ (Esther 4:16).
CONCLUSION
Holy men of God speak as they are moved by the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:21). The power of the Spirit is for Holy Men, who possess holiness and live constantly in the experience. An unsanctified leader will do more harm than good to his followers and God’s kingdom.
