THE AGONY OF THE FORSAKEN ONE

Today’s Reading:

MATTHEW 7:24-27

“Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (v. 24)

In this parable, there are two men who built houses. One built a house on rock so that when the storms came the house didn’t fall, but the other man built a house on sand, and when the storms came that house fell, and with a great crash. The parable was a symbol of two people who both heard the words of Jesus. One put what he heard into practice, but the other didn’t. The similarity between these people is that they both had to experience the RAIN, the FLOODS and the WINDS that came.

I believe that this message is as much for believers as it is for unbelievers. We live in a time where there’s a great exposure of the Word of God from social media, multimedia, churches and thousands of outreaches. I would say the world is full of hearers of God's Word, but only a few people are committed and willing to do as the Word of God says, either because of ignorance or unbelief.

The painful truth is that we’re always exposed to the "rain", "floods," and "winds”, expressing metaphorically the calamities and afflictions that befall men, such as false accusations, plots, bereavements, deaths, loss of friends. Storms of life that are all over the world, inflation, wars and conflict, global warming, insecurity, drugs, terrorism to name but a few.

The wise builder whose Christ Jesus is his foundation deal with all this as an individual by reading, hearing, believing, and doing God’s Word. Then when the storm comes, your foundations are strong, and nothing can shake them.

My hope is built on nothing less

Then Jesus' blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly trust in Jesus' Name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,

All other ground is sinking sand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

Is Jesus Christ your solid rock - the foundation on which you are standing? You have the opportunity to give your life to Him now as your Lord and saviour because all other ground is sinking sand.

Prayer:

  1. Father God, I thank you for your word and the opportunities you have given me to hear or read your word. Forgive me for my ignorance and unbelief, in Jesus name.

  2. Lord, lead me deeper into understanding your word and give me the strength and grace to put Your Word into practice, in Jesus name.

  3. Jesus makes me a wise builder and not a foolish builder, in Jesus name.

  4. Father whenever rain will descend, floods will come, and winds will blow help me to stand for you, in Jesus name.

  5. Lord, I pray that righteousness will reign the Church of God today, in Jesus name.
