THAT IS WHY I WAS SENT

Today’s Reading:

Luke 4:38-44

“But he said, I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also because that is why I was sent.” (v. 43, NIV)

When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable, goes the popular saying. Purpose consumes a man. It takes one’s attention totally. One spends all he has on his purpose. The purpose is a driving force. When you see a man of purpose, he has a focus. He doesn’t do things because people are doing it but he does it because of the love he has for it. Purpose determines how a man spend his time, it determines the company one keeps, and it attracts people of like minds. It also determines how a man spends his money. In fact, it determines who a man marries.

From the passage above, Jesus said that he must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God because that was why he was sent. What Jesus was saying in essence is that as much as miracles, healing, feeding of the people are important they are not as important as preaching about the gospel of the kingdom. Jesus devoted all his life to preaching about the kingdom of God even from age twelve when his parents were looking for him, they found him in the temple, and he said l must be about My Father’s business. Jesus knew why He was sent.

May I ask you, why were you sent? Why are you on this side of eternity? These questions will help you to harness your resources and make an indelible mark on the sand of the earth. But if you cannot answer this question, you may be playing on the surface of the earth. Let me tell you that as a child of God, your purpose here is to do the will of God in all aspects of your life. Anything outside of this is an abuse of purpose. In your chosen career, marriage, finance and all aspect, the primary and the only purpose you are here to fulfil is to do God’s will. And what is that god’s will? It is that all men should be saved. When last did you preach to someone?

Prayer:

  1. May I not live for myself here but life with eternity in view, in Jesus name.

  2. Everything I have done outside the will of God for my life, Lord have mercy on me and forgive me, in Jesus name.

  3. I retrace my steps back to my creator to all he commands me to do in Jesus name.

  4. I receive the courage and the boldness to preach the gospel anywhere I found myself in Jesus name.
