TAKE GOD AT HIS WORD

Today’s Reading:

John 4: 49-54 (51)

And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.”

(v. 51)

Sometimes, giving up on life comes easily when things are getting out of hands. The man in our text today had almost resigned to fate. His words; “…come down here, my child dies.” Even though he was giving up on the situation, he didn’t give up on Christ! He knew how helpless he was, but he didn’t forget to take the opportunity of the help that is nearby; Christ. He came to Jesus depressed and agitated but left with a word. “…my child dies.” But Jesus? “… Go thy way; thy son liveth…” Jesus’ response was however different from the request. He said, “…come down here…” But the Master sent a word instead. He should have protested but he did not.

Two things are evident here; he sought Jesus’ attention but got His word. He didn’t just get the word but acted by faith. It is like a medical doctor telling the relative of the patient, go on your way, she or he will be fine without any medical attention. The word of Christ equals His presence. The reason David wrote, “He sent His words, and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.” For every situation of life, there is a specific word of God that addresses it. It is therefore your responsibility to study God’s word, listen to Him for such a word that is fitting for the situation. Not only this, but you must also be ready to accept and engage the word by faith for an undeniable result.

Nothing changed until that man went out of his way to meet Jesus. And when he found Him, he found His word. And when he found His word, his faith was restored. And when his faith was restored, his servant was restored to life! Today, locate God’s word, speak it by faith over that situation that has been giving you a tough time and see things take shape. All you need to do is to trust His word and obey!
