Psalm 34:16,18,19-21,23

John 7:1-2,10,25-30

What can you do today to stay close to God?

  • Develop a heart of courage.

  • Develop a spirit of prayer.

  • Develop a spirit of faithfulness to God.

  • Keep a spirit of humility.

  • Maintain a spirit of faithfulness to God.

  • Do not condemn and criticise others.

  • Be sympathetic to the plights of others and pray for them.

  • Live an exemplary life and not just empty words.

  • Be a person whom others can confide in.

  • Live each day as if it is your last.

We are under pressure to either stay faithful to God or conform to the standards of this world. Which pressure will you succumb to? Will you succumb to the truth that you are made for Someone greater than this world (you are made for God Himself), for eternal life, holiness and love? Or will you succumb to the evil impulses that surround and pervade every aspect of our lives, from business relationships, to family life, faith and in whatever sphere you find yourself? There is always a tendency to be mediocre and selfish. And sometimes we even criticise those we see doing the right thing. But this is a new day; a day to evaluate your actions, and to remind yourself that there will be a day of reckoning, a day to give an account of your life (Romans 14:12).

Do not be afraid if you go through persecution from godless people:

“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted; those whose spirit is crushed he will save. Many are the trials of the just man, but from them all the Lord will rescue him.”   (Psalm 34:21). We will always meet with opposition if we choose to do good. People will criticise you and even block privileges that you deserve, simply because you are not “one of them”. But that should never deter you. The evil suggestions around you should never sway you to do evil because they are not your judge. God will judge all of us for our actions in this life. And unless we repent of our sins, we will suffer judgment, especially if you know what you should be doing.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome into the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. May God bless you and strengthen you to persevere in the face of evil and be faithful in following Christ, through thick and thin, to the very end, keeping you safe for eternal happiness. Amen.

  2. Shield us, O Lord, from the power, influence and malice of evil people. Give us courage to do what is right and pleasing in Your sight, and so spread the light of Your grace and favour in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
