Are you a problem-solver or a bystander? Jesus feeds a crowd of five thousand men with only five loaves and two fish. The real miracle which we all can perform any time is to show compassion. Compassion sees the problem and says, “I can do something to make things easier on everyone.” It is not enough to lament or complain about the problems of our world. We can contribute our bits to solving them. The miracle of multiplication would not have been possible if none of Jesus’ disciples were willing to spare their five loaves and two fish. Often, we find that while a community is poor, its individuals are self-sufficient. This is a defective character trait where we all cry in public but satisfy ourselves in private. The family is the structure which supports the flourishing of the community. In a family, individuals are seen, gifts are recognised, needs are identified, and problems are solved.

Here are some ways we can all be problem-solvers today:

  • Build healthy families where individual members feel safe and seen, and their needs are met.

  • Contribute your five loaves and two fish to alleviate the hunger of your family and community.

  • Teach those entrusted to you to care for public property and adopt problem-solving skills.

  • It is never too early to start apportioning responsibilities to children. This way, you empower them from a young age to care for their environment.

  • Create safe living and working spaces, so that we all can have the right environment for relaxation and productive work. Our homes can be less cluttered with unnecessary things. Mondays do not have to be traumatic for workers.

  • Simplify processes so that people are not frustrated because they seek information or services.

  • Good food ensures good health. Ensure that you provide healthy food and stay away from harmful food and drugs, which endanger your life.

  • Identify with your parish community and support its projects with your time, talent and resources. This is your own way of spreading God’s kingdom on earth, and God will bless you for your effort.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Eternal Father, bless your children as they go about their work during the week.

  2. Bless their minds and give them insight. Bless their hearts and give them loving concern for the good of others. Bless their hands and make them productive.

  3. Fill their whole being with the power of Your Holy Spirit and make them whole. Amen.

  4. May God bless you with wisdom and knowledge to unite others, achieve great feats, expand territories, enrich lives and build homes through your unique gifts, through Christ our Lord. Have a blessed and grace-filled week.
