Today’s Reading:
Isaiah 49:1-7, Malachi 3:14
“you have said it is in vain to serve God. And what profit is it that we have kept His ordinance and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of armies? (Malachi 3:14)
In these verses of Isaiah 49, the suffering servant is introduced where He speaks of Himself. He calls to the whole world concerning His mission. He is the one sent out from God, called from conception with a destiny. He’s God’s source of glory. He goes forth to do the will of God. Though His mission seems to bear no fruit. Are you a servant of God too and it seems your ministry is not yielding fruit? You are called and faithful, yet it appears your life and family are not showing forth the glory of God. Possibly your anthem is what is written in Malachi 3:14 that it is vain to serve God. Are you a Pastor’s kid and you have vowed never to marry a pastor or venture into ministry because of your parent’s experience? May I encourage you with Jonathan Edward’s story?
Jonathan Edward lived in New York. He loved the Lord and saw that his children were in church every Sunday, as he served the Lord to the best of his ability. He has had 929 descendants of these 430 were ministers, 86 became university professors, 13 became university presidents, 75 authored good books, 7 were elected to the United States Congress. One was vice president of his nation. His family never cost the state one cent, but has contributed immeasurably to the life of plenty in this land today.
What a wonderful story! God rewards His servant in an unspeakable way. At times it appears
as if they are suffering but a faithful God will never abandon His faithful servant. Just be
faithful, your rewards will definitely out live you. Shalom!
