2 Thessalonians 3:7-12
Luke 21:5-19

If you knew that today was your last day, would you still do your work, pursue your career, go to Church, chase that money, build your relationship or serve your family with the same energy? Most times, we see little or no connection between earthly life and our heavenly race. But if you cannot build the earthly city, you are not fit to inherit the eternal kingdom. Heaven is a race because that is where we are going. The world is a dress rehearsal for eternity. But how is what I am doing here and now connected to heaven?
The Prophet Malachi tells us that there are two kinds of people: those who are arrogant and evil, and those who fear the name of the Lord (Malachi 3:19-20). The first set is bound for heaven, while the second will not smell it. How do we differentiate them? Jesus says that “By their fruits you shall know them” (Matthew 7:16). The fruits of the Holy Spirit, which all who fear God should exhibit. They are more like character traits. The fruits listed in Galatians 5:22-23 are:
Love (the opposite is selfishness),
Joy (or negativity and constant sadness),
Peace (or troublesome),
Patience (or quick-tempered),
Kindness (or wickedness),
Goodness (or see the worst in others),
Faithfulness (or a cheat),
Gentleness (or provocative),
Self-control (lustful and out of control)
Generosity (or stingy),
Modesty (flirtatious),
Chastity (lack of commitment).
It is either one or the other. You are either bearing the Spirit’s fruits, or you are poisoning others, because if ‘e no dey, e no dey’. We pray that we may once more dispose ourselves to the Holy Spirit and show forth His fruits in our relationships with others. St Paul says that the Kingdom of God is evident in all we do, whether it is mundane or spiritual. He Himself was a preacher, but he was also a tent maker. Both professions are not opposed to each other. In fact, the proof that you can build God’s kingdom is that we contribute to the growth of the world we live in. And in fact, no lazy person should ever deceive themselves that they are spiritual because work is spiritual. You remember that phrase, “No food for lazy man”? It was inspired by Saint Paul (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
Do not be deceived by those who promise you success without blood, sweat and tears. Beware of those who prophecy woe and fear. Remain where you are. Do not allow yourself be swayed by charismatic preachers who are only interested in their pockets and see visions for you in the name of Jesus (kai, Jesus’ name don suffer walahi!). Jesus has already revealed Himself to you in His Word and Sacrament. Work with it and rest assured of His promises.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Eternal Father, thank you for the gift of this day. Give me strength to serve You, faith to hold on to You, grace to remain connected to You and the love with which to do all things for Your glory. Amen.
TASK FOR THE DAY: Let your work be seen in your faith and your faith in your work.
