Today’s Readings:
Jeremiah 17:5-10
Psalm 1:1-4,6
Luke 16:19-31
Because of sin, we are disposed to be devious. ‘We no dey hear word’. The only word we hear is the silly voice in our heads telling us to do something we have been warned against. The rich man realized this after asking Abraham to send Lazarus back to his father’s house to warn his brothers. He knew that they would end up in hell if they continued on their life’s trajectory—a self-centred life. Abraham explained to him, ‘Na fly weh no dey hear word dey follow dead body enter burial ground’. The best advice you can give yourself is to read God’s word which will save you from this perverse generation (Acts 2:40, 41). God’s word will ‘give you sense’ and show you that love of God and neighbour is the only goal in life worth chasing. As you study the Word, may God fill you with wisdom and strengthen your will to choose what is true, beautiful and good in Jesus’ name.
Promise yourself this period to stop the following tendencies:
• Trusting human beings.
• Trusting in wealth and things of the flesh.
• Following people of questionable moral character.
• Associating with people whose thinking and actions are wayward.
• Procrastination.
• Associating with gossip and persons who plot the downfall of others.
Instead:
Begin and end each day with prayer
Consult the Scriptures and your spiritual director.
Do your work well and trust in divine providence.
Spend time with people who are wise, resourceful and driven.
Prioritise time with family and close friends
Assist the needy.
Take good advice and act promptly.
The closer you are to the things of God (persons, places and things), the wiser you become. The closer you are to the things of the world (persons, places and things), the further you drift from wisdom.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank You, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Lord, I place my trust in You. Free me from the temptation to trust in my strength or the works of my hands. Bless me, bless others through me and give me a spirit of compassion through Christ our Lord. Amen.
