POWER OF MEDITATING ON GOD’S WORD

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 119: 97-104

“I have more insights than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statues”. (Psalm 119: 99)

Psalm 119 consists of 176 verses arranged in 22 paragraphs of 8 verses each. There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabets and each paragraph of this psalm corresponds to a different letter of the alphabet. This psalm uses eight synonyms for the word of God, they are: Law, Statues, Precepts, Decrees, Commands, Ordinances, His Word and Promise. This Psalm could simply be called “The Word” Psalm.

We can read, study, meditate, memorize, and live by the word, quote the word, pray by the word of God. Out of all we can do with the word of God, in my opinion reading will take the largest percentage. Most people stop on that level and they refuse to go further on other levels. Meditating on God’s word is one of the most powerful spiritual exercises a Christian can embark upon.

Meditation has to do with engaging in mental exercise for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness. To meditate is to dwell on, brood over, and reflect on. It can be likened to when a ruminant animal brings back food eaten earlier, to regurgitate. The effect of meditation is so powerful that it can take us from the physical level to a higher level in the realm of the Spirit though unlike some religion that uses it negatively. The potency of God’s word through meditation can be seen from the passage above. The Psalmist loves the word and meditates on it all day long vs. 97. The word of God makes him wiser than his enemies; wisdom lies in God’s word. When a man needs wisdom, let him meditate on God’s word. In verse 99, the Psalmist has more insights (knowledge, wisdom, and understanding) than even his teachers because he meditates on His Word.

Do you need more understanding than your teachers? Do you want to travel on eagle’s wing spiritually? Do you want to fear God and overcome sin? The answer to these questions is to meditate on God’s word. There are heights and depths we cannot reach until we meditate on God’s word. Keep meditating and keep winning. You are blessed in Jesus name.

JAMES ALADE

Prayer:

  1. Father, I thank you for your word that is available for me.

  2. Every power hindering me from meditating on God’s word, lose your grip in Jesus name.

  3. Ignite the fire of the Word of God in my heart in Jesus name.

  4. I receive grace to meditate perpetually on God’s Word in Jesus name.
