OUR GREAT GOD

Today’s Readings:

Psalm 145 : 1-5, 17-21 ; Haggai 1;1-15a, Luke 20;1-8

OUR God is an awesome God. He has innumerable titles that he himself disclosed to Moses that he is “I AM THAT I AM”. Everything about him is great. There is no searching of his understanding. We should therefore be content with what he has revealed to us about himself. In Deuteronomy 29:29, we were made to understand that the secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever that we may do all the words of this law. This was also taken further in Joshua 1:8, which emphasised that the book of the law shall not depart out of our mouth and that so long as we meditate on it day and night it is sure that our ways will be prosperous, and we shall have good success.

The reason is because God honours his words even more than his name. His words will not come back to him void. He is the only one that can be trusted and believed. The Psalmist knows the secret and that is why he made God his Alpha and Omega. He knows a Man can receive nothing except it is given to him from above. To know God and share intimacy with him is an everlasting honour that cannot be replaced with silver and gold. Solomon with all his wealth had to conclude that vanity upon vanity all is vanity. Clearly, knowing God may not be as straightforward as it seems initially, but when we come to his understanding every other thing pales into insignificance. We forsake everything for him. Jesus told the rich man to sell all he has and come and follow him but unfortunately the rich man went away in sorrow and missed the only thing that he needed in his life and lost it all. He did not seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all other things which could have been added unto him was lost. We are to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. We are to acknowledge him in all our ways and he shall direct our paths.

The psalmist understands the greatness of God and made up his mind from the onset to follow him without looking back. He always reminded God of his faithfulness and spent all his life seeking God. In Psalm 42: 1 he declared that: As the hart pants after the brooks so pants my soul after you O God! He declares and became a king from a mere shepherd boy. God had no choice but to declare David as a man after his heart. We need to recognise the greatness of God for us to fulfil our Divine Destiny. This we can do like the Psalmist by praising him, by communicating with him every day through prayers. By reading the word and meditating on it. By loving him and showing it through propagating the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour to show his greatness. In truth God cannot be deceived whatsoever a man sows so shall he reap. It is unfortunate that Christians don’t even know or can’t even comprehend the greatness of God. We need to make up our mind today that from now on we will make it a priority to tell the world the Greatness of God. After all, the scriptures says our God is a Great God, a Great king above other gods.

God has shown his greatness in so many ways that we don’t need anyone to come down from heaven to tell us about him anymore. We have more than enough evidence around us and within us that proves his greatness. In any case if anyone comes down from heaven some people would still not believe. God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in truth and in spirit. There is no one that can claim that he has not experienced the greatness of God. The only problem is that we compare ourselves with others which boils down to ingratitude. You need to talk to God now and ask for forgiveness in any area where you have not recognised his greatness and his raw power. Decide to follow Jesus one hundred percent without looking back and his blessings shall be yours in Jesus name.
