You are probably wondering what this reflection is about once you read “coconut head” from the title. We in this part of the world consider stubbornness a trait that is akin to the tough shell of a coconut—it is hard to crack. Stubbornness resides in a person’s will. When you are convinced about the truth, you are not going to give it up without a fight. In some cases, you are willing to risk losing your life for what you believe.
When you are in love, it doesn’t matter what other people think. All that matters is what you know of your beloved and how you feel about them. The words and warnings of friends and family are nothing but hot air. You are not a bona fide coconut head until you find something or someone for whom you are willing to risk being wrong. We may be wrong but we choose to believe nonetheless. Before we continue, are you a coconut head? There is a part of each of us that is strong-willed. But there is a kind of coconut headedness that does not makes sense. When you blindly defend something wrong or indulge someone because of how you feel about them and not what you know of them, you are not being sensible. Truth is a fundamental value of an original coconut head. Truth means that you have gone over all the evidences and they have satisfied your curiosities and questions. Jesus says, “If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed”. Knowing the truth is to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, to hold on to His every word as sacrosanct, without an admixture of personal sentiments. He claimed to be God and he proved it by dying and rising from the dead. He declares that, “He is the way, the TRUTH and life” (John 14:16).
The three young Jews who defied Nebuchadnezzar are the coconut head OG’s. They knew the God they were worshipping and would bow to no other even when they were threatened with death. They were stubborn in their faith: “If our God, the one we serve, is able to save us from the burning fiery furnace and from your power, O king, he will save us; and even if he does not, then you must know, O king, that we will not serve your god or worship the statue you have erected” (Daniel 3:17). Such faith, confidence and stubbornness are uncommon. This is the original coconut head trait that every true Christian should possess.
A lot of life’s situations today present us with opportunities to be stubborn for the right reasons:
Pressure to deny our faith in order to get a job.
Putting your faith in second place because of marriage.
Temptation to indulge in sexual intimacy during courtship.
Pressure to bribe your way to opportunities.
Temptation to treat others just as badly as they treat you.
Pressure to change your moral code because others call you “holy, holy”.
Temptation to disobey rules because no one keeps them.
The list goes on. Doing the right thing is the new rebellion. Some people just need to see one good example to inspire them to change. Be the example that someone needs today. Rebel against the world’s standards because you can, because it is the right thing to do. May God bless and strengthen you. Amen.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud: Father, thank you for Jesus Christ. Forgive my sins, take control of my heart and lead me in your righteous path by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Lord, open the eyes of my mind to the truth about You. Help me to hold on to the conviction I have about you and about my purpose in the world and use me for Your mighty works. Amen.
May God show you mercy this new week. And even when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, false accusations, temptations and personal trials, they shall not consume you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
May the Lord deliver you from all your fears and troubles in Jesus' name.
May the Lord rescue you and yours from those too strong for you, may they be disgraced and put to shame over your life, home, and work in Jesus' name.
May God deliver you from the plots of evil people this week, strengthen your faith in His mercy and favour you in every way through Christ our Lord.
