Today’s Reading:
Joshua 1:1-11
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful any wherever you go “
At the end of Moses ministry as leader of the nation of Israel, Joshua was appointed by God as the new leader. The Bible states that “Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So, the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD commanded Moses” (Deuteronomy 34:9). Joshua, Moses’ assistant was a witness of demonstration of God’s power in Egypt and in the wilderness. His assignment was to conquer the land from their enemies and divide the land among the Israelites as an inheritance. ... “for unto this people shall thou divide as an inheritance the land which is ware unto their fathers to give them” v.6. This suggests that the present occupants will have to be conquered through war.
Although, Joshua had all the following on his side: His personal knowledge of God; Mentorship by Moses Joshua 1:1’ Number 11:28; God’s divine grace Deut. 34:9; God’s assured presence v.5; God’s promises vs 3,6, 9; The commandments God handed to him through Moses v.7. Yet, God instructed Joshua to “fear not, be strong and courageous, meditate obey and be guided by the book of the law. Success of his assignment depended on further obedience to God.
What assignment has God called you to? If He called you, then the grace or the anointing for performance will be available. There are chances that God will take you through the process of preparation which may sometimes not be palatable. However, there is need to understand that God’s counsel to Joshua is applicable to everyone who will make himself available for the divine task. To be ‘strong and of a good courage’ call for total dependence on God’s power and promises. This charge is also an encouragement for you not to give in to fear and satanic intimidation, even when the situation looks bleak or impossible. However, as you daily trust God for strength and direction in executing His assignment, He will give you the supernatural enablement required for success. Remember! Success in divine assignment is dependent on your level of trust and reliance on God’s power rather than your own power.
