Obedience to God may move you away from what is familiar, but it will never move you away from what is fruitful. Obedience puts you on a path of destiny. And one singular obedience may affect generation unborn, likewise disobedience. Obedience to God’s call doesn’t come easy, but it’s beneficial. Genesis 12 marks a major turning point in the story of God’s relationship with humanity. God calls Abram to leave everything he is familiar with: his land, his people, and his father’s house and embark on a journey to an unknown destination. This divine call becomes the foundation of Israel’s history and a model of obedience, faith, and covenant.

As you journey in the year 2026, you must take note of the following from the life of Abraham:

One, God’s Call Requires Separation (v.1). Abram was instructed to leave his country and his family. Divine elevation often requires separation from comfort zones, ungodly influences, and limiting environments. You cannot hold on to the past and step into God’s future at the same time. What are the things you need to let go of as you journey this year? Two, God’s Call Comes with Promises (v.2–3). God promised Abraham a great nation, a great name, blessings, and divine protection. God never calls a person without attaching blessings to that obedience. He never asks the house of Jacob to serve him in vain. He is still calling today. The call may not be a popular one to go to the seminary or start a ministry. It may be a call to give your time, resources or gift to God more than that of last year. And you will never regret it if you obey Exodus 23:25.

Three, Faith is Obedience Without Full Details (v.4). Abram departed even though he didn’t know where he was going. Obedience is not waiting to understand everything; it is trusting God step by step. It may sound so foolish to people around you, at times even your spiritual father may not understand, but if it is God, then you are good to go, Psalm 32:8. Four, Divine Presence Goes With Divine Instruction (v.7). When Abram obeyed and reached Canaan, the Lord appeared unto him. God reveals Himself more deeply to those who follow Him wholeheartedly. An altar was built, meaning Abram responded with worship and gratitude.

God’s promise included Abram’s seed. Your walk with God today affects your children’s tomorrow. Be willing to obey even when the path is unclear. Trust God’s promise more than your fears. Song: Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to Trust and obey.

Shalom
