Today’s Readings:

Philippians 2:1-4

Psalm 131

Luke 14:12-14

It is a new week; one filled with blessings and opportunities. To access new blessings, you must adopt new ways. To overcome old challenges, you have to avoid old problems and embrace new realities. God's word shows us several things that can help us adopt a new mindset and lead us to do things differently, and hopefully, better as followers of Christ.

  • Unity—togetherness in love, purpose and mindset; which is founded on trust and selflessness. We are stronger when we access the strengths and talents of the people in our lives and work together. It should matter less who gets the glory. What matters more is that we get the job done and all glory is given to God (Philippians 2:1).

  • Humility—In a world where everyone wants to be seen and heard, we should be more than content to be felt by the impact we create. There is greater power in being impactful on people’s lives—especially those who cannot repay you. Activities which make very little direct impact on people’s lives smack of selfishness (Philippians 2:4).

  • Purpose—Have a reason for everything you do and let that reason be no less than God Himself. If you hand over your mind with its thoughts, your heart with its desires, your gifts with its mystery and your hopes with its freshness to God, you will bring into the world nothing short of God’s greatness and glory.

  • Meditation—Only a still and recollected mind can bring forth truly thoughtful and useful things. For this to happen, you must take seriously the following words, “Truly I have set my soul in silence and peace. A weaned child on its mother’s breast, even so is my soul” (Psalm 131).  Place yourself in God’s hands and reflect daily on His word (John 8:31,32).

No schemes, only love—We have somehow bought into the mindset that everyone and everything is an opportunity to get ahead. We enter relationships for our benefit. We collaborate to be better off. True profit is not in what you hope to get but in what you can give and who you can transform with your gifts. Selfishness only infests your heart with restlessness. Look out for opportunities this week to do what Jesus says, “When you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back means that you are fortunate because repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again” (Luke 14:14).

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Lord, give me the heart of a servant, in Jesus’ name.

  2. Lord, teach me humility and service, in Jesus’ name.

  3. Lord, help me to realise that to reign in glory, I must first serve, in Jesus’ name.

  4. Lord, give me peace of mind through Your Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.

  5. Lord, deliver me from fear and anxiety, in Jesus’ name.

  6. Lord, fill me with hope and heal me of my complaints, in Jesus’ name.

  7. Lord, let my life be pleasing to You, in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

  8. May God grant me the newest of blessings, the freshest graces, the sweetest of peace, and the divine provision that comes with them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
