New Month Matters

Readings:

Acts 2:14,22-33

Psalm 16:1-2,5,7-11

Matthew 28:8-15

“Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers that they must leave for Galilee; they will see me there.”

                                                                    (Matthew 28:10)

Easter Monday has been dubbed “Galilee Day” because of today’s Gospel reading. But why did Jesus want to meet his disciples in Galilee? The obvious answer is that Galilee is where Jesus began his ministry: In fulfilment of Prophet Isaiah’s words — “Land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned”. (Matthew 4:15,16).

To my mind, Jesus takes them to where they first met to remind them again of all He had taught them. Reminders are important because as we go through life, we tend to forget the important things. As a Christian, here are a few things you need to remember always:

  • You are either doing the Lord’s bidding or the devil’s work. Everything you think, say or do matters.

  • Fill your mind with content that is good, true beautiful or useful (Philippians 4:8). Before you share it, ask yourself: is it good or evil? Is it true or false? Is it useful or useless?

  • What you post and share on social media matters—you will render an account for how many people you either led to God or away from Him by the content you post, like share or refuse to share.

  • Be salted with Prayer, Scriptures, the Sacraments and godly friends so that you stay fresh. Or else you will be corrupted with evil and become smelly (insert holding nostrils emoji).

  • Be truthful to yourself always (the Devil’s version says, “Be true to yourself”) — If you have done wrong, admit it; if you need to change something about yourself, do not hesitate.

  • Carry out a daily examination of conscience—it will help you live better.

  • A wise person knows when to speak and when to shut up—it is also important to know how to speak. “It is better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt” (Proverbs 17:28).

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. May every new month be a time of spiritual renewal for you.

  2. May God grant you true contrition for your sins and cleanse you of every hidden fault. Freed from sin, may the grace of the risen Lord descend on you and the Holy Spirit order your steps on the path of abundance and favour in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  3. A blessed new month to you. May this new month be a time of spiritual renewal for you.

  4. May God grant you true contrition for your sins and cleanse you of every hidden fault. Freed from sin, may the grace of the risen Lord descend on you and the Holy Spirit order your steps on the path of abundance and favour in Jesus’ name. Amen.
