Today’s Reading:
II Corinthians 1:1-11
"Who comforts us in all our tribulation so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (II Corinthians 1:4)

Every child of God has a God given task or assignment to carry out on this side of the divide. This task or assignment can be called ministry. Though people have given ministry different meanings, all children of God must understand that there is an assignment God has given each and every one of us to do. This assignment is specific and unique to individuals. People may appear to be doing the same thing, but their assignments are different. The understanding of this ministry may come through revelation or experience. The experiences of every true child of God are never accidental or coincidental, but orchestrated by God to fulfil a divine purpose.
The scripture above with focus on verse four; God comforts us in all our tribulation so that we may be able to comfort those in any trouble. It takes a man or woman who has received God’s comfort to give such to another person. But this comfort comes when we are in tribulation, trials or challenges. If a child of God is passing through a particular challenge there is an assurance of God’s comfort. This comfort if accepted by the individual, can become a ministry for that person. Dorcas also called Tabitha in Acts of Apostles 9:36-42, was a woman who was full of good works and deeds. When she died, the scripture says all the widows stood and were weeping. I see from the scripture how Dorcas was ministering to the widows. Though the Bible didn’t mention it categorically, there is every likelihood that Dorcas too was a widow and after receiving God’s comfort during her widowhood, she was able to give comfort to other widows. The understanding of that ministry came through experience. I have seen several people having experienced something devastating and terrible, later turn their experience into a ministry especially in the household of faith.
What is it you are also going through in life? Have you lost your husband? Have you failed woefully? Are you going through a terrible situation? Does it seem there is no hope for you or you are asking the question, why me? I want you to begin to see your present situation as an opportunity to minister to others who are or will go through the same thing in life. No experience of a child of God is in vain, there is something tangible God wants to bring out of your experiences. Why not accept God’s comfort so that you can also give comfort to others. If you are grieving over a particular matter, do the following: approach God in the place of prayer for strength to carry through this period, tell him to comfort you by himself. As you pray this simple prayer, you will begin to experience Him in a new dimension and he will begin to send help your way. You may need to speak to a Christian counsellor. It is well with you in Jesus’ name as you receive divine comfort and turn your challenge to a ministry of comfort, in Jesus’ name.
JAMES ALADE
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud: “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Oh Lord, help me see the way you see even in all my challenges.
I receive grace and inner strength to go through my present challenge unwounded in Jesus’ name.
Help me Lord to give the same comfort which I have received from you in Jesus’ name.
No matter the situation I go through in life, it will not swallow me, I shall come out strong in Jesus’ name.
